Best of luck if it happens, I don't like McDonagh's chances in this one, I don't like McDonagh's chances vs Phillips as I mentioned in the Phillips thread.

But he does deserve to capatilise on the big Gomez win.

McDonagh is not rated by EBU so I dont see en eliminator between him and Tonchev (Who is only rated 14th at superfeather).

Of course McDonagh can fight Tonchev, but it wont be in an EBU eliminator.

and the remark about mc donagh fighting dean phillips is a joke when mc donagh has moved up he has proved him self not just gomez and david burke

so you think tonchev is not good enough that says alot for the british scene as dean phillips is in the top 5

Its was a good win vs Gomez, but proved himself? Gomez is a shot fighter, sorry.

His record since 2004 is 4-7. Among those 4 wins was a close one vs Honney, who Dean smashed. Losses to Burke, Jeffries, Lawton, Murray etc hardly indicate proved himself.

But good luck to the man anyway.

No one here is saying that. Tonchev is relatively rated low by the EBU, for whatever reasons they see fit. If you've a bone to pick with why Tonchev is so low (and McDonagh not there at all) e-mail the EBU

All Im saying is that Peter McDonagh is not rated by EBU, not in the EBU or the EU ratings + Tontchev is rated 14th in the EBU ratings.. That is the reason Im saying that a possible McDonagh vs Tontchev will not be an EBU eliminator

Its probably because he was Koed in 2 + lost a clear UD to two european fighters.

Am I right to assume, Maloney has options on Tontchev?

Never met Dean, but do have a respect for him for coming to the forums and being honest. We have had a few discussions over PM regarding his ranking (I think top 5 is slightly inflated to say the very least).

Yes, I know McDonagh hasn't had ideal preperation in the past, but I don't think the one win indicates "proven himself". Whilst durable, he doesn't have the power to beat a top 5 domestic Lightweight (note, Dean is not in the bracket IMO).

I wouldn't say its a forgone conclusion between Dean and Peter, but I would pick Dean - call it Welsh bias or a lack of boxing knowledge or whatever, just think Dean is fitter, stronger and has a greater desire than the Gomez who faced Peter.

now days he has only ever had one manger that is why his carrer has gone of abit 24 hours notice and been robbed more times than barkleys bank

What a knob that bloke it.... Some tell him he only won that fight because Gomez would rather take the money...he will go back to losing ways when he's back to fighting journey men. ...EBU tile..even bigger mismatch when David Walker fought for the belt.....

I like Peter McDonagh he's a nice lad and I was real chuffed for him when he beat Gomez and felt sorry for him when people said it was a fix.

It would be good to see him team up with a good manager and promoter and then we will be able to see the real Peter not the 24-hours notice Peter we normally see.

But until he does people are bound to judge him on his past record and unfortunately the records just show W-D or L not if it was close or controversial!

So we could see McDonagh-Thaxton in a final eliminator if he has signed with Mick H.
