We know there is no chance of Hamed getting down to this weight for a LONG time.... but I was still surprised with the WBO.

Apparently, Hamed asked WBO President, Paco Valcarcel , that he would like to get a shot at the winner of the Jorge Barrios vs Janos Nage (Barrios' mandatory) after speaking to Valcarel at the Calzaghe vs Lacy fight.

Valcarcel said he IS considering this request and said the WBO will always have its doors open for the Prince.

What? Four years out of the game and looks like he could get a title fight in his first fight back?

Didnt Tyson get WBC no1 ranking in his first fight back? Hamed dominated 126 for years and is a huge draw. Barrios would be happy to fight Hamed and make a fortune

Money talks as always in professional Boxing.

But getting a straight title shot is bad for the game and for Hamed himself. If Hamed insists on making a comeback surely several warm up fights are the best thing for him?

Or does he just want one quick fight with a big payday and disappear again maybe?

Also would a Hamed comeback be THAT big? I'm not so sure.

Good question, interest may have dwindled but hes still the biggest name in British boxing. Hes 1 of the 5names none boxing people know.

Which Tyson comeback are you refering too? He wasn't the mandatory after the McNeeley fight... Lewis was, but Lewis took the sidestep money.

If Hamed had one fight near Super Featherweight and got the mandatory status then I could see a point, but his first fight back - shouldn't be sanctioned.

Its not the first time its happend, Andrew Golota had an IBF title challenge after a long absence.... I disagreed with that too.

Who would you prefer to see the winner fight though? 130 is think on the ground. This would be a super-fight pretty much. Surely you didn't disagree with Leonard getting a shot at Hagler? If Hamed can get to 130lb throw him in with whoever he wants and lets watch a historic fight.

I was wrong about Tyson then but he didnt beat anyone on his 96 comeback to get a title shot. Most guys don't these days. Who did Hatton beat to get his shot at Tyuzu - no joke Stewart. We already know Hameds the business and super fights is all he needs to fight.

Having said this it could be Hamed pretending hes going to fight and make the economy lots of money to get off prison time.

Hatton's wins over Phillips, Magee, Tackie, Rowland, Stewart and Olivera were probably good enough to warrant a shot a Tszyu. They all were probably in the top 20 at the time of their contests and Hatton beat them all (expect Magee) with comparitive easy (far easier the Mitchell did vs Stewart) and showed he was good top ten material with the manner of these wins.

I wouldn't call Hamed vs Barrios/Nagy a super fight at all.... not through Hamed's fault but because of the champion. They are not charasmatic enough... Hamed vs Pacquiao, Morales, Barrera, Castillo, Corrales - now they are Super Fights.

Hamed's the business? I'm not going to get drawn into that debate again.

Should Leonard have been allowed to fight Hagler without a warm up? Well probably not, its wasn't for the unified title (one of the organisations refused to sanction it) - but Leonard was a much bigger star than Hamed who was always mentioned by Hagler, always discussed... The only fighter who has publically called out Hamed is Kevin Kelley.

Thing is, what if he looks really crap in those warm up fights? Then nobody will want to see him against a decent opponent. Where as, like you said, money talks, so I guess he would rather go for broke and fight for the larger prize straight away.

Not really shocked by the openness of the WBO towards Hamed. I seen this news on fightnews and it also said in his spare time Oscar De La Hoya plays golf with WBO president Paco Valcarcel, so that should explain his Sturm gift.

I think any Hamed come back will end in tears... dout that he can even safely get down to 126 anymore either, he looked sick in his last fight...

fully in agreement here. Leonard may have gotten an immediate title shot: but Tyson, Trinidad, Barrera all had to have a feeling-out fight or two, before getting a title shot. Hamed should not be allowes straight back into title action, he should have at least ONE fight.

I also chuckled when Silkov mentioned he doubts Hamed could get back down to 126. Firstly the title shot would be at 130, but I am laughing as I am not sure he could even make that weight..... My opinion back in 95 was that if Hamed wanted to ever be a 4-weight champ he should have gotten back down to 122 and won a title there, coz he would be no good above Light-Welterweight....... and now I find myself wondering if he could even get below 135 again.

Plus it is all ineffetcual anyway - if he doesn't go to prison, he is "the boy who cried wolf" in returns of comebacks - we have heard all this before!

This is just bullshit. Hameds going away and he hadnt fought for three years before that. Its all designed to reduce his sentence.

Barrearra kicked his ass when he was on top. Now he would be a shadow.

Exactly, it has been common knowledge for nearly 30 years that so called governing bodies are corrupt, pocket liners for desperate or greedy promoters.

There is no difference here.

A Hamed comeback would sell any title. How about one Ive created?
