Why is Haye's stamina bad?

Howcome?
Is he spending more time Weightlifting his way to Heavyweight than doing the proper work in the gym?
Surely running on beaches on Miami ain't a good idea too with all the distractions.

I would hazard a guess and say not enough roadwork. That is of course just a guess on my part.

Yup too much weight training looks like the main reason for his poor stamina. You can tell by his build.
He needs to do more roadwork and cardiovascular exercises.

I think its more to do with Haye's fighting style and the fact that he loads up on nearly every punch. Trying to bang your opponent out with raking hooks and launching uppercuts is a sure fire way of expanding huge amounts of energy.
Naseem Hamed did the same, Junior Witter currently does the same and both of these fighters, like Haye, were/are dodgy in terms of stamina over the stretch.

He hates roadwork (no excuse). I read in an interview a few years ago that he hardly ever ran as an amatuer and he hates it.
Him struggling at the weights bullshit imo. He should be making the limit EASY. And he would if he was more dedicated.

Simple answer, he's a lazy fornicator.
And he probably makes excuses in his own mind as to why he shouldn't run.
good fighter athletically, I wouldn't say he has great skills however. Anyone who knows boxing through and through knows what I mean.

I am not sure of the facts but totally agree with this.

considering the size of today's heavyweights, Haye should continue to struggle - to keep his weight below 200-lbs. i remember an interview with herbie hide, who was bigger than Haye, saying how he wished he'd stayed at cruiser and that he'd bulked up unnaturally with the protein shakes. Problem was it was far too late (last year) and his comeback fight was cancelled
if Haye can sharpen up a bit, there's no way he should miss an opportunity like taking on the Cunningham-G Jones winner

David is not massive for his weight either, his last opponent looked quite alot bigger than him.
I too think its a problem with over doing the weights and under doing the stamina based exercise.
Bruno had the same problem, maybe David has come to rely on his excellent punch a little too much.

I can beleive the lazy comments about the 'hayemaker'
He seems FAR more interested in the fame and glamour side of it all.
I think he has the talent to rule, but he is too pre occupied with the modelling, money, fame shit.
Thinks he has made it already.

From his build I'd say he should be making Cruiser easy. Its probably money why he wants to go up to heavy. If he can't make Cruiser I'd say he's being lazy.If he is walking around at 16.4 stone when he's not in training then he's obviuosly not dedicated. He looks a natural Cruiser to me. As for the weights, there are ways to train to get strong and powerful without bulking up but I'm not sure what he does.

Sorry to seem like I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but I too had similar thoughts with regards to him being able to make CW. Ok, he's no short arse, but he doesn't exactly share the same build as Bruno. Moving to HW could be a disaster, even if the competition isnt strong there.

the thing is, all the great potential stuff is at cruiser. so many tough fighters and compelling fights in that division. bell-mormeck was an outright classic. haye should have a look at jirov, a failed heavyweight who is moving back down to get his career moving again.

And does Booth seem to not care about his stamina problem and overusing of weights?

Power punchers always face a steeper learning curve than technicians.
It's all good till they meet guys who don't go down.
It's a big adjustment, since stepping up requires a refinement of style; confidence suffers accordingly.
I am with this general feeling that Haye's undertraining though.

I've read before that he isn't a great trainer. His power will get him out of trouble sometimes but unless he sorts his training out he will come unstuck.
I saw him on TV last weekend saying he only has 4-5 fights left in him at cruiserweight then he's moving up to face the big boys. He said he weighs in at 14st 4lb and by fight time he weights 15st 5lb.

Not sure if this is a fact but i would have a bet on it that haye likes to look in the mirror rather than train himself! i wish that fight with mark hobson got back on because hobson would kick his arse in my opinion!

it seemed like Haye nevr wanted the fight w Hobson. those are the vibes i got. seemed as though haye saw Gurov as a more attractive, trendy shortcut to increase his status. but looking at Hobson's last fight, a very perilous outing he took short notice, he would have given Haye the ultimate gut check. would haye have passed it?

A fit, prepared Hobson would have beaten Macca and would really test Haye. If Haye doesn't take him out before 5/6 rds then I would fancy Hobson to stop him.

Like i have said on every Haye moving to heavy thread....
He is "only" moving up for the money and the glory
![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)
No way should he be tight at the weight, if he is then its only himself to blame.
He has been using weights and doing bodybuilding exercises rather than using weights for athletic enhancement...
I can see him know doing his dumbell curls and pec deck... rather than power cleans etc
Worth remembering ( someone please advise if i get something wrong)
2000 - Haye still fighting at 81kg on the day weigh in.. thats 12st 10
2001 - Haye wins a tremendous silver medal against Solis.... Solis was 91kg and Haye in an interview says he was giving away 5-6kg, making him about 85/86kg which again is on the day weigh in and inside the old cruiser limit...
2002 - Makes 91kg on the day for his commonwealth games brief appearance
2003 - turns pro... despite being non title contests he weighs in at the cruiser limit for most of his fights, not a sign of someone struggling with weight...
These pictures show how he has grown in 3 1/2 years... its mainly arms and pecs....hardly a core boxing requirement.... but essential for those modelling contracts

Great post Knockout. You're right about the weight training. As a strength and conditioning coach I think he could be even more powerful and strong. But he shouldn't be struggling to make Cruiser. Hide is the example Haye should take. Decent but when he stepped up he got stopped.
