finally saw it!

i must say layne really impressed me in this preformance. he looked good on film, a lot better on film than some of his fights in the mid 1950s. layne in this fight displayed a very good jab(better than in some of his other fights), good speed, and proved how good his chin was by taking a flush staterfield right hand and getting up and coming back to knockout satterfield. this was an exciting slug out, both demonstrated tremendous punching power and heart. satterfield was also impressive, he was far more polished than layne and was very aggresive and displayed very good punching technique, solid handspeed, and devastating power. for any of those out there who dont buy the historians claim that layne "packed a powerful right" youd BETTER watch this fight cause rex layne hit him with one of the best right hands i have seen, satterfield dropped like hed been shot. its amazing he got up, but he was out on his feet and a couple more big rex layne punches the ref stopped it.

i was impressed by both fighters, one of the best slugouts of the 1950s heavyweight matchups. two young top contenders in there primes bringing there A games and putting on an awesome display of power and guts.

* on a side note, one of the broadcasters was rocky marciano on the main even show. rocky was funny as hell. he also looked pretty big. wonder wut he weighed.

anyone got comments on this fight

I keep hearing about how Layne looks good in some films . .

All I know is that he looks like CRAP vs Marciano and Charles . . a Ron Stander level heavyweight

i never said he looked good. i said i was impressed with him. theres a difference. layne was always crude, even in satterfield fights. however, he was a dangerous puncher, very strong, lots of heart, good chin, good jab, good inside fighter. those are very good attirbutes. his flaws were lack of defense, crude, didnt polish his boxing skills, low hands . layne never got a chance to polish up like he should have. a couple times in the satterfield fight, he actually moved displayed decent head movement, of course those were only in quick spurts.

-ron stander level heavyweights dont beat jersey joe walcott and ezzard charles

bob satterfield hit harder than layne, was more polished boxer than layne, had better defense than layne, was faster than layne, YET it was layne who knocked out satterfield.

the right hand layne knocked out satterfield with was a huge punch

dempseyfire if ur looking for pure boxing skill in layne, ur not gonna find it. you have to watch for other things with layne. he was a dangerous slugger with a lot of heart and toughness.

rex layne was viewed as the next heavyweight champion, not rocky marciano. he was favored to beat rocky.

* if i were to praise layne for anything related to boxing skills, it would be his jab. he had a good jab, he busted satterfield up with his jab

also for those who claim satterfield was wild with no defense, i HORRIBLY DISAGREE. satterfield was very polished and displayed good defense. he got into a crouch and bobbed and weaved. he had good head movement, and his kept his hands high to block the punches(kinda used a criss cross). satterfield also had good boxing skills, very polished.
