Tough mandatory lined up for Hatton.....

Should Ricky fight and beat Collazo for the WBA Welterweight title, he could very well be pitted in with the dangerous, Joel Julio who is fighting Carlos Quintana in an WBA Welterweight eliminator contest in June.

What a mouthwatering prospect that would be.... This Julio is a serious puncher and has been VERY impressive up untill now.

In other news relating to future Hatton opponents boxrec have down Miguel Cotto vs Jose Luis Castillo, for Cotto's WBO belt - this though is surely subject to Cotto and Castillo coming through their next fights Castillo has got Corrales next on the 3rd of June, Cotto has Malinginaggi the following week.

Has he been punsihed by the WBA for taking the step aside money? and been treated similar to the WBO treatment of Witter?

Urkal would be a good fight for witter if he wants to chase down hatton as it would do his rankings well what ever devision he wants to compeet in.

Hatton would not go near Julio, not a chance.

Im honestly sick of seeing things about Hatton, its acctually making me sick now. Jesus Ricky why fight these bums, why dont people pull fingers out of arses and get him in with Floyd or Cotto. Cause they are the only people who stand a chance. Jesus

Its down to Hatton that these fights aren't being made... I doubt that he'll ever fight Mayweather...

Not the only ones, Jose Luis Castillo, Antonio Margarito and a few others (and I would DEFINATELY include Julio in that list).

Already turned down Floyd twice, and wants some tune-ups in the US...

Quote from Sauerland Event CEO Chris Meyer:
"We have written to all parties involved about the problems, says Meyer. -The purse bids makes it legally binding for Collazo to fight Urkal, he simply can´t get around it. There have up until now not been any offers for step aside money or other agreement from anyone. We are waiting for a final decision from the WBA and are confident an amicable solution can be reached."

I thought there was, obviously not.

Quite odd and it doesn't look good for the Hatton promotion.... Collazo vs Urkal was once set.

Since leaving Warren, Hatton will have gone probably 7 months before he has a fight....

No kidding. Ricky needs to realize your window for boxing at the top of your game is short, and he's basically letting his slide by by chosing crap opposition, and taking consistent tune-ups. I've never heard anyone need two tune-up fights before a big fight. I mean, rip on Floyd all you want, but he jumped into 135 vs Castillo, and he took the former champ at 147 on in his second fight.

I think Floyd is class as a boxer, would have liked him to have stayed at 140 longer though and taken on Cotto... but that may well end up happening at 147.... Cotto shouldn't be at 140 anymore imo...

Cotto's best career move is to move up. I don't see how 140 is even healthy for him, he looks like a skeleton making weight. 147 is home to a ton of great boxers if Hatton's fight comes off, and that's where the money and fame will be.

He looked sick at the weigh in for his last fight, his people are going to ruin him if they are not careful... if anything he should probably be at 154... but at least at 147. Hattons biggest fight so far was against a 35 yearold who had only fought about 2 times in the past 3 years and he's acting like it was the thrilla in Manila!... the way he got busted up by Maussa I don't see Ricky having a chance against Mayweather.

I think a lot of boxing fans are beginning to cop on that it wasn't just FW who wanted easy fights for Hatton. I was onto this a long time ago, despite being a fan.

I think Ricky knows that most of the people watching his fights couldn't tell a Cotto or Margarito from a Maussa. Every fight he's in now is a world title fight so that should be enough to sell it.

Looking at it from his POV, as long as he stays undefeated the general public will stay interested. What's the point in him taking big risks by taking on a tough fighter most of his fans have never heard of when he doesn't need to do it to get big crowds. As soon as he gets that first defeat on his record, I expect interest from the (British) public will began to fade and fizzle out and Ricky knows that.

It's a tough call, is he doing the right thing or not? I know he isn't poor, but why risk his health and financial position when he already has such a large following? Why fix something that's not broken? I know he talks about wanting to be known as one of the greats but all fighters will say that. I think the financial rewards will always be the most important thing at the end of the day.

I know people who just expect Hatton to win every time "because he's the best, nobody can compete with him" - because this is what Sky and FW have spoon fed them over the years. When he was fighting Tszyu I didn't think Ricky would win and when I said this, all I got back was "of course he will, he's the best fighter in the world, he wins all his fights easily" and then "I told you so" afterwards, even though the guy saying it had never seen or even heard of Tszyu before the fight was announced.

As long as there are casual fans like this around, Ricky is right to handpick his opponents. The only people who lose out are the real fans, who, if we're being honest, are the minority.

Before long people are gonna turn against Ricky. I mean god, hes had 40 fights, so he shouldnt need a bum infront of him so he can pummel him. Either Cotto, Mayweather, Margarito or Castillo.

They are the only 4 who stand a chance imo.

Corraless will be KO'd easily, got a chin like single pain window

You could say from one point of view that he is right, I've nothing against a fighter making money and keeping his health but on the other hand if he wants to be regarded as a true great after he retires then he needs to do a heck of a lot more, otherwise he'll end up much like Hamed... who is regarded as a talent that never lived up to his promise... a disapointment in other words... and Hamed faced far better competition than Ricky has...

But Corrales can hit, which is why Ricky don't want him!...

Hmm, harder than Tszyu, I doubt it....

I think Hatton would knock Corralles to bits pretty easily myself, he's easy to hit and he's not physically strong enough to cope on the inside. Corralles isn't a big lightweight let alone taking on a natural welterweight/light middle like Hatton.

Posted: 10 Apr 2006, 12:53

But Corrales is an animal in there, he'll make a war of it and with someone of that heart and power Ricky can be sure he'd be in for a rough night... Corrales may also be stronger at 140 than he is at 135...

Maybe, but his punch resistance won't improve, he was very lucky in the 1st fight with Castillo that when he hurt him he was against the ropes. Had castillo fallen and had time to take a count and get up, I think he would have gone on to pound him. In the 2nd fight he was spanked.

You cannot discount the difference it makes taking on a man who is naturally bigger, Corralles can punch for sure, but Hatton would be on him so quick and those long ribs would have him licking his lips.
