I am one who rates harry wills very highly, i think he is a very underated. max baer at his best was great, but so was harry wills who was far more consistent than baer and wills also had the better boxing skills and was more polished.

My view: a no A-game Baer wouldn't have stood a chance; and he showed hs A-game only a few times. in a fight going the distance it winner should have been Wills, as even prime Baer fought only in spurts. Could Baer have KOed Wills, as he KOed Schmeling? Wills was KOed legitely only twice, by Langford when he was still green, and by Paolino when he deteriorated. Peak Wills was hard to hit cleanly and had a good chin.

So this is a tough one for Baer. Wills wins 8 out of 10 times.
