Does anyone remember seeing this fight on the McGuigan - LaPorte undercard?
Was it a good fight, or good last round?
Looking at Hugh Russell's record, it seemed a hell of a way to go out.

It was a great fight. Brown was nothing special, but gave it everything in the days when a British title shot meant everything to fighters like him. Russell found himself busted up (he had a history of cuts) and fighting for his life, though his better boxing and pedigree (he was an Olympic amateur) came through in the end.
Sugar Ray Leonard personally congratulated Brown on his effort.
Russell retired to pursue a career as a sports photographer.
