Hatton and Collazo - The tale of the Red Tape.
Posted: 20 Apr 2006, 07:38

Interesting observation.....on Hatton's website the poster for his fight against Collazo clearly shows a red strip on the poster proudly proclaiming 'World Welterweight Championship' However, the Promoter, Art Pellullo's website 'Banner promotions' seems to have these words missing on his poster and the red strip is blank whereas a couple of days ago the text said the same thing.
Why do you think that is....any ideas?
Surely Ricky isn't misleading his fans about the status of his fight on 13th May?

And the wrong bit of the Union Jack as well. Typical Yank's. Collazo is a Puerto Rican as well isn't he?
I'm sure Hatton's Welsh, Scottish and Irish fans will endear to him for this one.
But the fact remains, the details are strangly missing on US websites.

i know there's a lot of anti hatton stuff on this forum, but i do wonder if things will all start to go wrong for him. his attempt to conquer america seems to have been very shoddily thought out. did no one know about the Collazo-Urkal purse bids? I have to admit that one slippe dme, but i'm not a promoter! and it seems he's there to stuff as many pennies as will fit in his pocket, as quick as he can, to the point that a lot of parties (Sky, FA) won't be getting erections over the prosepct of working with him again.
if rh found zab judah dead in a dark place, would he pull out the man's gold teeth? those are the vibes that i get from some ppl's posts on here

I'm afraid mr chat you are mistaken, that is in fact the correct bit of the union jack, as it is the St George's cross. Also, as Puerto Rico is actually part of the United States, that is the correct flag to display on the poster.

It's not a real world title anyway, so even if the WBA strap was on the line billing it as the world title is false advertising anyway. I don't think HBO mention the ABC titles do they?
This is just Ricky testing the waters at 147 against a pretty useful looking Puerto Rican.
He doesn't need titles to get the big fights - he's got massive appeal and a huge fan base - and you can't say that about too many other fighters these days.
Rumours are his camp are seriously chasing a PBF fights this year now. Makes sense too - it's a fight he might win - it'll be a good fight and it's not like Floyd is gonna spark him. In fact, I doubt he'll even hurt him, seeing as he couldn't even dent glass jaw Judah.
So he didn't show Warren loyalty? So what? It's not often you'll see a boxer show loyalty to his promoter anyway.
Think it was Russel Peltz who said never get close to a fighter cause he'll break your heart.
FW was happy to take on fighters built up by other promoters in the past:
Bruno, Magri, Sibson etc etc
What goes around comes around.

I beg to differ James and admire you for your nit-picking. Firstly you are right the George cross is red on white but they have left a blue backgroud which was my point. So actually they used more than they needed to.
Puerto Rico is part of the United States you are correct too but the part of the map they have used does not include PR. In addition, PR has it's own recognized flag. Collazo is billed from NY, which was my point and although that is where he settled to undertake his career he is very much a proud Puerto Rican.
However, the main point is, the WBA have not and probably will not and legally cannot sanction this a a world title so why is it being billed as such.
Don't take your eye of the ball James.

Either the WBA have changed their mind, or the poster was produced ahead of time and they couldn't or wouldn't change it.

England has actually been covered by the flag of Iceland. Very strange.

Agreed, should have been on a white background, but perhaps they did it that way for the colour scheme.
Perhaps they are hoping some agreement can be made with Urkal prior to the bout, they don't specify which belt is on the line.

Nice one Mr McNeilly! Also the Scottish border looks ratehr high don't you think?
Also, being really picky, if two were coming by sea wouldn't it be Hitmen?
Do it again, I'll cut you balls off!

Strictly speaking no, as they are not in the same sentence, therefore the plural is not required.
If the poster said 'Two hitman coming by sea' then it would be a different matter.

Are you insinuating that Achybreaky has been uphill gardening in the garden of Mr Warren? Is this one of your famous examples of 'insider information.'

They have never changed their mind. The fact was there from day one, King and Collazo have an obligation to defend against Urkal who will not go away. The WBA are under a court order regarding Hatton and cannot sanction ANY fight involving him. These are matters of record and therefore from day one they have been BS'ing everyone. Don KIng knows the score and Pellulo has been aware of this for ages but both have led the nieve brits up the garden path to the point of no return. Brilliant, hillarious!
This means that Ricky will go over there, get fucked by the Tax man, fucked by King and Pellullo and lose both his 140 lb titles. In addition, Sky will pay him less and he will woin nothing for beating Collazo who even if he loses will still be WBA Champion as the WBA have not sanctione dthe bout thereofre he has not lost it under their specific rules.
All in all, Fight Academy have been royaly screwed and in turn so has the
Hatton tribe, which ain't a bad thing.
Still at least the £5k cheque for the WBU will protect his status!

The line 'One if by land, two if by sea' is actually taken from the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem 'Paul Revere's Ride', and it refers to how many lanterns should be hung in a Boston church to warn of the British invasion during the American War of Independence. So there.

Urkal will not be compensated and is refusing to do any deals. Christian Meyer of Sauerland Events has already pout the WBA on notice that they will be sued if they sanction Hatton V Collazo. The WBA are being sued by #1 Souleymane M'Baye at 140 lbs and now probably by the 147 lbs #1 Urkal and the common factor is RICY HATTON.
The WBA will not risk massive damages, costs, beaching the MA act in the USA and a possible RICO charge for Ricky Hatton I can assure you.

Off topic question. Why can Puerto Rico compete in the olympics? You have to be a UN member to participate in olympics (Greenland and the Faroe Island have applied to be separate nations at the olympics but got turned down because they are not UN members)

Ah, interesting fact. So a plane load of pissed up Mancs would create a massive commercial uprising lanterns sales in Boston then.
