Toney 'english fighters have no heart'

i actually read this on a website recently. is he a wanker or what? he's not only drowned his own fornicating career about 4 or 5 times, but he can be downright offensive.

makes me feel glad that rahman bashed up toney's left kindey. and before anyone says it's an illegal blow, Toney leans to far sideways that his side invites a good beating. you know, if the guy would lose some fornicate_ing weight, he would actually be able to move, and not just rely on slipping at the waist and countering with a predictable looping right

his fighting style, like his mouth, is becoming pretty tiresome

whne you look at the best british fighters, like Calzaghe and Hatton, it's remarkable the kind of shape that they get themselves in for important fights. can that fat lard d the same?

Toney has been bad mouthing UK fighters since the Benn - Eubank days and it's getting very dull.

Especially when he turns up for fights looking like the Goodyear blimp.

Much as I like Toney, he should get his fat arse on a stairmaster and shut the fornicate up.

He only says it to wind up people like you, and seemingly he's succeeded.

Toney acts like an idiot. i personally don't give a damn what colour the heavyweight champs are, so long as good fights keep happening (thankfully this is the case at the moment). anyhow, he says there won't be a white heavyweight title holder...incorrect, as within a day or two of that comment Lyakhovic (or L'Hovis as those showtime boys kept calling him) wages a fight of the year calibre brawl with brewster and beats him

black or white or latino, if you throw all the best heavyweight fighters in vs fellow top 10 men, they would lose as many as they would win

I remember Toney never had respect for Lewis. He tried to pretend that Holy deserved to beat Lewis in the 2nd fight, so that when Toney beat an aged Evander, he could make out he was The Man. Funny thing is, steroid pumped (which he may well have been more than once, for all we know) or flabby, Toney would have been slaughtered and humiliated by Lennox.

He was a hell of a fighter, but he's too damned lazy to train properly, and it cost him the heavyweight title, which is pretty poor. Had he done some proper fitness training and got his weight down to where he was against Holyfield, he would have beaten Rahman.

I wouldn't say that. from '91 to '94 he was a top 10 p4p. he made 6 middleweight title defenses and - in fairness - he LOST most of them. depending upon how you score fights, he got lucky vs Johnson, McCallum I, McCallum II, Tiberi...but those fights made him tough, and he had several good wins at s/m, vs barkley, pc williams, littles and thornton - but barkley and williams were come forward men that were made for him, as opposed to the slick boxers who gave him hell at 160

don't get me wrong, he's hof material - especially with the jirov win - but he's got some very very bad losses

Toney maybe an excellent boxer but if we were to take those comments of his seriously you could end up extremely offended, if like me, you have fond memories of Bradley Stone's, Michael Watson's, Mark Goult's, and Spencer Oliver's boxing days.

Best just take them with a pinch of salt. I think it's all just show biz to him.

he was on a rant, crying about how he was robbed vs rahman (absolute bollocks, Rahman should have been awarded the victory) when he said it.

Yes, becuase Toney is usch a great world champion, oh, I forgot HE'S NOT!

He was beaten by Rahman fair and square, and Rahman doesn't even deserve to be the WBC title champ after the likes of Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis and Vitali Klitchsko.

Plus, he beat a good challenger in John Ruiz but it tunrs out Toney was souped up on drugs.

At least the likes of Hatton and Clazaghe don't need drugs to be twcie world champions.

You people make me laugh. Patriotism at its best, yet you criticise the same fighters at the drop of a hat.

Toney is wrong, our fighters have heart. What most of them lack however is intelligence and skill.

It's prevalent in most of the sport in this country in fact.

lewis was a dominant champion, so i wouldn't say toney is better than anything to come out of england

calzaghe will have a better body of work if he's put in some big fights with the top middles (wright, taylor), s/ms (kessler, beyer, bute, andrade) or light heavies (tarver, woods, johnson, adamek, briggs). talent wise he's not inferior to toney and he has a good 2 yrs left

hatton stopped tszyu, toney - some would say - was lucky to get by mccallum who was officially 2 or 3 yrs older than the tszyu hatton fought and stopped. and unofficially that mccallum was maybe SEVEN YEARS older than the tszyu hatton beat...ricky's done pretty well, and he's only just getting started unless some of the problems boxingbile keeps reminding us affect his form

Southpaw Stylist, I'M IRISH.

I'm an Irish Nationalist, so your "patrism at its best" is BALLS!

Don't get me wrong, I don't consider Lennox Lewis to be a legne dof the ring, however Lewis, Holyfield and V Klitchsko were all great fighters.

Rahman certinly isn't. The best heavyweights out there in my opionion are;

1. Chris Byrd
2. Vladimir Klitchsko
3. John Ruiz
4. Calvin Brock
5. Sinan Samil Sam

I like Toney even though he is a classless oaf. Every sport needs a court buffoon and he makes a decent one

However, you do have to take everything he says with a pinch of steroid

Do you actually watch any boxing at all? Wlad is 2nd best, what after getting nuked by Sanders and Brewster, and fighting like a scared rabbit against Sam Peter? Samil Sam! Based on what?

How was Vitali Klitchsko a GREAT fighter? Who did he beat to become a great fighter?

Vitali shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Holyfield and Lewis.

Terence wrote:Maussa, I did say recent and added to it by mentioning Calzaghe and Hatton. Fair enough you say Toney SHOULD have lost some of those fights but on the other hand people say Joe SHOULD have lost to Robin Reid so that proves nada other than you think he (Toney) should have lost some fights. The fights you remark on are remarkable when you consider how weight drained Toney was yet still only Jones could knock the stuffing out of him. When you check the record books and see Toney fighting Merqui Sosa (then unbeaten), Michael Nunn (then unbeaten and by far more highly rated than Lacy), Reggie Johnson and Mike McCallum in a single year it puts the recent UK successes in perspective. In that sense in a single year Toney achieved more than our premium fighters, Ricky Hatton makes a good case with Tszyu/Maussa year though; Calzaghe will never fight two big fights in a year. Jones aside only James Toney has beaten James Toney, he came in at 5 weeks to fight Ruiz and handed him his ass, most UK fighters need a five-year 20-odd fight build-up before they take on a test like that. I'm not denigrating our guys but stating an obvious fact, line for line their is more filler in the careers of Joe and Ricky IMO. Maybe Toney was getting at this.

To be honest Toney is the quintessential pantomime dame yet can still stand close with a guy who KO'd our best ever fighter, all that and he is fighting above his weight. Hats off to the guy and he can say what he likes.

Creases, no offence mate but that top 5 is bobbins! :TU:
yeah, i did concede that depending on how you score, toney may have lost any/some (not necessarily all) of those fights, and that those fights made him stronger...sadly things move so slowly over here, and clean records must be sustained, which is why i'm glad lewis didn't go with warren...with toney acting the claptrap, he does open himself up for plenty of criticism

i don't think reid beat calzaghe, robin boxed well but he gave the early rounds away...toney does have a very bad lucky win, over TIBERI! and i hear that near hall of famer terry mcgroom deserved to beat him at cruiserweight

toney has beaten toney (and don't get me wrong i have been a big enthusiast of his old school boxing) but who's fault is that?

Of course there is

A fat shirtless geordie looking crushed at an away game after Newcastle have been tonked. If there are tears, all the better.

The Liverpool/Newcastle classic from the 90's is a perfect example. Quite the funniest sight ever

Toney is just doing it to wind people up, but it is tiresome considering he has only beat Jirov who was any good in the last 12 years.

Also he should have about another 4 defeats on his record.

the fighters he fought since 94 are terrible. They are worse than most fighters first 20 opponents.

He was a good super-middleweight but has since become vastly overated just because he can roll his shoulder.

pre 94 a very good fighter

since 94 one win against Jirov and that's it.(and even though it was a good fight, you have to question if jirov was even that good as his fights since then have mainly been defeats.)
