Daniel Jimenez, 132, won a split decision over Vincente Escobedo, 132, at Arco Arena, Sacramento, California in a battle of prospects. Escobedo, 9-1-0, 9KO, was a touted Olympian who showed good ring generalship and patience in dealing with the aggressive Jimenez, 14-1-1, 8 KO, working behind a sharp jab and hurting Jimenez at times. Jimenez threw a lot of punches and scored a flash knockdown in the 8th round with a left hand, but Escobedo was up quickly and both fighters finished strong. Scores were 77-74, 77-74, and 75-76

Crickey, I thought Escobedo looked awesome in the fights that I have seen him in. Perhaps we should be looking closely at the Jimenez fella.

Agreed Stu, from what i have seen Escobedo looked a force to come, sounds like a good fight with lots of action. Maybe Jimenez could be one to watch as you say.

Ya Escobedo looked very good to me aswell , Jimenez must be fairly decent .

Infact looking at Jimenez's record he looks very good , as his loss and draw came in his first two fights and the loss was only a MD .
He is also trained by Evangelista Cotto .

Although, this particular report doesn't seem to suggest that it was a particularly deserving decision.

Probably will be a rematch.

Although the fightnews report on the Kelly fight suggests gives the impression of a fair decision there also!

Anyone know the background to this Jimenez kid? Digging around on boxrec it looks like he has a brother called Darling :o who's a light welter. Must be pretty decent to have beaten Escobedo, either way.
