Manfredo or Kessler for Calzaghe

by Old bones Ian
I've heard that Mr Warren is in talks to get Peter Manfredo to be Calzaghe's opponent on July 8th, Manfredo has shot to fame because of the Contender program in America.
Kesslers managment have also put in a late offer for Calzaghe to face there unbeaten champion on that date as well.

Out of the 2 of them , and looking at it from a fans point of view I'd prefer Kessler as he would present a harder fight for Calzaghe, but looking at it from a business point , then Manfredo would offer the bigger seller to the American audences

Kessler fight june 9th in Denmark so I doubt it will be him that is Calzaghe's opponent.

This should be easy to call off if needed.

Manfredo would still be a good opponent for Calzaghe, he's got an agressive style and would certainly come to fight and try and win the title.

It would be a fight easily sold to the american market as well, Manfredo has a big following in the US, and you could get names like Sugar Ray Leonard , Sylvester Stallone involved selling the fight.

Calzaghe should fight Kessler, as many say his the best supermiddle, I disagree I think Calzaghe is the best but he must prove it.

Manfredo isn't in the same class, worst even than Lacy!!!

Manfredo is very limited at world level, and would not be able to keep up with the speed & power of Calzaghe just like Lacy.

I've only heard good things about Kessler, the once I saw him, he was OK, good hand speed and skills but no power!!!!

Calzaghe should do only massive fights now (4 fights left business!). Become undisputed at supermiddle then take on Clinton and the other light heavies.

If Calzaghe is so keen on winning over the ignorant part of the US audience, have a tune-up against Manfredo for gods sake and amke your debut in MSG. But then fight Kessler in the fall, and announce it now.

The Manfredo fight would be a good earner for Calzaghe and he obviously want's another high profile fight but it should be another easy fight, easier than Lacy proably. With Calzaghe commited to this fight in June Manfredo's proably the best option with other better ranked fighters tied up and Manfredo having a big following after the contender, I'd certainly watch the fight. I think Calzaghe can then fight Kessler in the autumn.

I h ope you're right, but given Calzaghe's choice of opponents thus far I doubt it.

Theres no definate opponent for him though so he could scrap it for Calzaghe. :TU:

Apparently he's put a bid in to fight Joe too so hopefully, Pundit will be converted to Calzagheism since he still denies the power of King Calzaghe!

Calzaghe-Mandredo would be nothing more than a money making exercise, Mandredo to my knowledge has nothing to offer apart from a name made of the back of a television show. Calzaghe against Kessler or Beyer are the only worthy matchups next for Joe at Super Middleweight IMO.

Who will be next for Calzaghe after TV-BOY Manfredo????,perhaps he should fight a Big Brother Reality star or a gay from American Idol

Manfredo has NOTHING in the way of Top Class championship or contention rights, he is a good fighter but TV made, just like all those "boy bands" and that pathetic wannabe Justin Timberly, or whatever the hell his name is!

Anyhow back to boxing, Manfredo was FIRST MAN OUT in the Contender series and should never have been aloud back in, he was beat well by the tough little Mexican Gomez (have I got the name right), if Calzaghe really has historical asperations he should fight "real" Contenders and Champions...

Man boxing really annoys me at the best of times, I hope there's a HOF Heaven where we will "know and see" the REAL GREATS!

has anyone done their research and seen that dan rafael piece, about HBO trying to woo Calzaghe? $1.5 m offer, to fight someone of the ilk of librado andrade, allan green or manfredo. khan on the undercard. cardiff or manchester, HBO wanting to show a delay

FW is packaging the Calzaghe fight v TBA alongside the Skelton v Williams rematch and an appearance from Khan.

Its a good opportunity for SN to get Skelton and Williams some air time on HBO in the States, assuming that HBO dont just show the JC fight on delayed tape.

Goes without saying. Theres just as much chance that Beyer would of accepted a fight against a peak Ali as against Calzaghe, if research is done it is totally self evident. Calzaghe has suffered from the fact that fighters know he is a monster but hasnt had the promotional/dollars behind him so has been dodged. Who could he fight now, all the major players are tied up. As far as Kessler goes he's got a fight in July hasnt he?. And it all depends if Joe wants to go for Tarver etc after his next fight.

Who gives a shit if he fights an American, a martian, wherever they're from...it's not the fight for him to take...He needs to take Kessler or Beyer...not a reality show runner up.
