The reports I find about this fight claim it was an easy win for Patterson, that Moore couldn't cope with Patterson's speed, and that Patterson had a much easier time with Moore than Marciano. Then again Moore was apparently well ahead on the judges' scorecards by the time of the stoppage.
I haven't seen the fight. Can someone please clear up this riddle?

Moore was beating him from pillar to post and then decided to take a short Siesta. Which was unfortunately ruled a KO by the referee.

i dont know why the reports state this..........moore was pitching a shutout on the cards before patterson knocked him out. moore was outboxing patterson.
moore always claimed this was one of his worst fights and that he entered the fight not prepared because he was dealing with personel issues. moore said if he had brought his A game he would have won, sadly he never got a rematch. patterson brought his A game and flattened moore.
i dont think patterson had a eaiser time with moore than marciano. outside of the 2nd round, marciano dominated archie moore knocking him down 4 times and winning nearly every round beating the shit out of him and knocked him out cold in the 9th. moore sat on the canvas beaten and unable to even attempt to get up. sure patterson knocked out moore faster, but i think part of it had to do with archie having one of his off nights.
moore on the other hand WON MORE ROUNDS VS PATTERSON IN 5 ROUNDS THAN HE DID VS MARCIANO IN 9 ROUNDS.
of course marciano battered and gave a serious beating to archie moore BEFORE patterson fought moore. marciano was known to ruin fighters so that beating on moore had to have some effect on moore physically(though moores record after marciano did not reflect this). moore fought patterson 1 year 1/2 later

I'd still appreciate some further insights - who won how many rounds against who one can get from boxrec....

I am going to rewatch this one...but I am pretty sure Patterson was
pretty dominant in this one through most the fight. Too young, too
fast and too accurate.
I never left after watching this fight thinking that Moore was ahead.

Worth noting that Marciano was closer to his peak when he fought Moore than Patterson was when he met him a year later. Patterson was just twenty-one --- though impressive upto that point in his career, fighting for the World's Heavyweight title at that age is a daunting task. No help when your opposition is someone as formidable & recognised as Moore, either.
Patterson improved post-1956. A rematch would've been more decisive in the champion's favour, not less, irrespective of what shape or mindset Moore came in under against the still-developing Patterson.
