For his pro debut he made ten thousand and it was telelvised. From then on , he was more journeyman rather than top ten fighter.......... He seemed to lack desire to train and during the tyson bot only made something like 9,000 dollars......... to a degreee symapthize with him, king just never paid up the cash he owed for the tyson bout.......... Mithc then wa sin and out of the ring now is schedule d to figth the bean........... with his speed and sharpness in punching mitch green could have been a contender................

He definitely would've beaten BoneCrusher Smith and Michael Spinks.Him and Tucker may be a tossup.

Green may have been able to outbox Bonecrusher, but he wouldn't have been able to beat Tucker or Spinks. Tucker was just as bog as Green and had a better, stronger jab and more power. Spinks was too awkwards, herky jerky and would not have let Green unload the shots he would have needed to beat a guy like Spinks.

Green possibly would've had problems with Tucker, but he would've given Spinks a very tough fight.Outside of Holmes and Tangstad and a couple of others, there were heavies out there at that time that Spinks would've lost to, and a prepared Green was one of them.

If Shakespeares mum had been his Dad then his Dad would have been his mum... this just about sums up Greens chances of beating Smith and Spinks!!....

Green had a great chin and that was it.

The only thing stopping him having a good career was a complete lack of world class talent.

Erm well, he was world rated... how about you actually watch some of his fights... or why don't you tell me what a world class talent actually is.....

I remeber that ring magazine had a section where they would talk about up and coming fighters and do a profile on who they thought was the latest hot prospect. They even went as far as to compare Elija Tillerry to Ali. I suppose it was their way of promoting guys as they almost always ended up in obscurity. No doubt some had a lot of ability but I would like to have a dime for every fighter with ability who went bust.

I remember that section . One year, they had a big write up on a heavyweight named Mike Williams. I dont think he got too far.

Looked him up . Ring had him as the prospect of the year in 1987.

I remember it was called the new faces section. Mike Williams was typical of the kind of guys they use to profile. I remember Williams as having I can't beat a contender syndrome. That was pretty fast in finding that. By time I find what I am trying to look up and post about it the thread is already on page six.

Wasnt Tillery the guy who started kicking Riddick Bowe and Rock Newman pulled him out of the ring?

I read a story about Elijah Tillery which said he was meant to be one of the greatest gym fighters in the world. Apparently he would outbox most top fighters in the gym but when it came to the real thing he couldn't do it. Yes he was the other fighter in the kicking match with Bowe.

I remember that article. He was built like a bodybuilder, huge bloke, about 6ft 4 without an ounce of fat on him......shame he couldn't fight and punched like a girl !!!!

Green was a talented guy. he was the first guy to get in Tyson's face and not back down from him. If he could have been more sorted psychologically he could have had a good career.

Well theres talent then theres talent... he gyms are full of 'talented' boxers that can't do it in the ring... Green had a decent jab and good chin... but thats about it... but he showed at even that stage that Tyson could be beaten with a jab and a bit of attitude...

And I guess that this is really his claim to fame. He made Tyson lose it in the ring and reveal his brittle psychee.

He also was one of the most fastest heavies in recent history.

...Page, Tillis, Williams and Tubbs and Dokes were all faster and much better all round boxers... I think Green gets overhyped because of his match with Tyson...

I remember Percell 'Magic' Davis being mentioned in the same section, or something very simular around 79/80.

He didn't go too far either.

I had almost forgotten all about him untill he came over to the UK weighing about 320lbs(?) and getting KO'd by a young, and much smaller Herbie Hide
