Morris vs Munroe....

Possible domestic fight of the year there, credit to both. Tremendous fitness and great action.

I actually thought Munroe nicked it... but can see why it went to Morris, so not complaining... Scorecards were out of order though, I don't think you could have scored it more than 7 rounds to 5 either way.

I do think Morris is the better prospect of the two, and probably fought down to Munroe's level a bit - but a lovely little appatise to Arthur's fight.

There's a fair few nice potential fights at Featherweight.... You could have Morris vs Foster Jnr, and maybe Munroe vs Simpson in an eliminator or something.

Add the likes of Jamie McKeever etc and there some nice domestic fights.

First time I've seen both boxers. Despite Munroe having the flashier style I thought Morris' footwork was far supirior and made a big difference. However if Munroe had had a bit more pop in his puches Morris could have been in real trouble, as at times he looked pretty easy to hit. Both men looked huge for featherweights

Yeah i thought Munroe wasn't punching as hard or cleanly as morris so
you cant argue about the result, but he showed a lot of heart and the scarey thing is Morris said his performance was crap so look for big things from this manc.

I really rate Morris, his style is very pleasing on the eye and he has a great work rate.

Should have a very good future ahead of him.

Munroe showed great fitness and courage to stay with it and still be throwing punches at the end, both guys showed really impressive levels of fitness in there. Morris did well, not the best i have seen him at times but obviously fights get tougher as the opposition level rises, shame he doesn't have a wee bit more of a dig on him because ability and workrate are both no problem for him. I thought Morris won by about 2/3 points even though i didn't strictly score it, i would like to see him defend the British belt a couple of times and maybe look to Commonwealth before trying to move up to European, he has time on is side and can continue learning.

Munroe proved he is capable of holding his own at British level, a bit more experience and there is no reason why he can't become an established contender at the weight. Morris V Foster Jnr would be a good fight, would back Morris to win though but probably on points.

Yeah, I agree - Morris has a bright future. I was looking for him to sit down on his punches a bit more at the last minute or 30 seconds of each round (during/after the middle rounds) last night, because I really think he could have put a stamp on his performance doing that. Anyway the win is all that matters and he will go upwards from it.

Terence, that is a shame if Monroe has been getting avoided (can believe it) and even worse if he gets blacklisted because of last night. He is more than capable of mixing it with the best of the domestic featherweights. How about a Foster jr. fight?

Munroe showed enough to suggest he is capable of mixing at domestic level, his fitness and stamina were impressive and perhaps a move to someone like Hennessy or Warren could see him getting his career on track, i think he certainly has something to work with.

Good point, we've seen some decent 'part-time' boxers mount some great titles challenges recently. With a bit of money behind them it would be interesting to see how good they could be.

It was a good little battle they put on :TU:

They will be able to both look back on that perforformance with great pride :TU:

Munroe I think may just benefit more from the exposure, both looked v-good domestic fighters, and a credit to each of their trainers.

I do not share McGuigans view that Morris on this showing will be contesting world title honours, no disrespect intended but it is far too early to tell, it was good a fight for two young prospects but just too early to predict world title ambitions...for either.

Absolutely agree, that was very premature of Barry McGuigan... I tended to agree with Morris' viewpoint of his performance than what Barry said. I have only seen Morris on one or perhaps two occasions, but he was more impressive on those showings than last night, I actually thought last night performance gave me more question marks about him than before.

I'm sure he will come good though, there is potential - but if that was him fighting to his potential... then he will fall well short of World class.

Let's be honest though, what would televised British boxing be like without Bazza giving it the old "hey, let me tell ya - this kid's world class" routine. :D

I do like McGuigan, especially since he has been with ITV.

But he is trying to be a Teddy Atlas in regard to his TV style...Teddy Atlas is a God in that respect and there is nobody who evens comes close.

When it comes to a boxing analysis/expert then honesty is the best policy.
Sure you may be able to fool the non-boxing fan who watches occasionally, but you ain`t gonna fool the boxing fan who watches all the time

Teddy Atlas gives it as it is, and explains so well the lesser obvious things that make up the fight...I don`t mean to hero worship but he really is special in that dept :TU:

Thats what I hope was the case when watching the fight. He's undoubtedly got some fine moves... but if that was your first viewing of him and it was described as his best performance... then I don't think he will go much further.

BUT, it wasn't my first viewing and I DON'T think it was his best performance.. I thought he was fighting a bit at to Munroe's level. I thought his shots were classier, but out times was outwork - that why I thought Munroe nicked it... but also can see why he didn't get the decision, and kinda glad Morris won.

Great fight, shame about the scoring (117-112!!).

Great fight, but I had it clear to Morris. As Maxx pointed out, so much of Munroe's work had no no snap to it, and by far the majority of the cleaner punching was from Morris. Think I had Morris by 3 in the end.

First time I've seen Morris. He doesn't look much of a puncher, although it's interesting to hear from those who know him better that he looked under-par. Munroe looks like he'd mix well in domestic class. A fight with McKeever - another super-fit fighter with a modest punch - would be fun.

I thought Morris had won it cleary aswell, it was a good fight but all the quality was coming from Morris and alot of Munroes work was falling short or hitting the arms and gloves which as we know are not scoring punches. Good fight anyway.

I had Morris a clear winner too.

He made Munroe miss with a shit load of shots and picked him off with many of his own.

Morris can easily step it up though, he looks a million dollars in the gym.
