SN - Gary Young snub - DISGRACE

i was sat just behind ringside last night. about an hour after gary young was receiving oxygen in the ring after a heavy knockout he and an older guy (who looked like he must be his father) returned to the ringside seats (3 rows of them) to watch the rest of the action.

after a struggle to get past the jobsworth minding the gate, the two of them sat down to watch the fight. five mins later an official slung them out, much to their obvious humiliation. i watched them wandering round the bleechers looking for somewhere to get a decent view.

it doesn't need me to spell out what this says about certain people and certain organisations.

Unfortunately professional boxing is about money and if you get chinned in a round by an average fighter; you're not likely to be making any money.

So you are no longer important. In the words of Mickey Duff, if you want loyalty, get a dog.

I don't agree with it, but that is business...........

That doesn't sound too nice, hope it there is some honest explination - perhaps security failed to recognise him and didn't discuss with the boss (maybe assumed he was in hospital).

I hope he did get checked over thoroughly, ITV showed the KO'd and it was very bad (it looked like he was punching when he fell a second time, after the second KO).... Perhaps he should have got checked over in A and E.

there was no misunderstanding - no suggestion that he wasn't recognised.

his dad pleaded his case but it cut no ice. warren was sat close-by and probably saw it - dean powell and andy ayling were milling about too.

Just be thankful that Young is OK.

I agree, I think too much is being made of this.

SN provided the medical care which brought him round and he got paid.

They are not obliged to give him a VIP ticket as well, just cause he got ko'd.

This is boxing people get ko'd all the time.

Can see definately see your point, but if (and I don't know the situation here) the ringside area wasn't sold out (or people had left) then what harm was he doing ringside.

Absolutely disgusting these "people and their organizations". What a horrible bastard Warren must be for raising £300k for Michael Watson, paying £500k for ALL boxers MRI scans, saving the BBBC with a £100k payment and giving thousands to McKlellan. Horrible pudendum, remind me what did the other Promoters do? Oh, I remember - Absolutely nothing!

You fool, your comment is both unfounded and ridiculous and until you know the FULL facts I suggest you crawl back under the stone you just appeared from.

Good example of what happens when you inflate a record then place a shorter, but sharper, pin against it. Pop!

I imagine this was a pisser for SN. They'd given Young loads of undercard slots against the usual suspects and a couple of... unusual suspects (Hengstberger). It's all going well: he's keeping the army in their Saltire shirts happy, he's winning and getting on TV. Then, FOUR years later they decide it's time to step him up: things get a bit shaky (though I thought he looked good against Bonavic), and when it comes time to fight an opponent who's really up for it - coming to win and hit back - he gets bombed out inside a round. What are SN to do with him?.. I think this might be a rude awakening, and he'll get put straight back in just below the level he was at last night - whether he sinks or swims..? Time will tell.

I agree with this. SN have given him the full treatment for years - invested in him - and, whether through fault of his own or not, he has just about blown it. They don't have an obligation to pamper him (especially since his prospect status just took a major dent), but I don't see much problem with letting him sit there if there were seats free. That jobsworth sounds like a proper pudendum.

the place was half empty when Alex was fighting man looked like there were tons of seats. also gary young and his pa are well known figures on the boxing scene in edinburgh so a wee bit mare respect would be good :TU: :box: weetam

I agree mate.

Warren was never involved with Watson. Yet he went to the trouble to do something for him. Where was Duff or Hearn when Watson was crippled????

Where was Duff when John Mugabi needed cataracts removed?

I'm not saying Duff or Hearn were obliged to help. They werent.

Nor was Warren, but the difference is, he made a difference.

What is the full truth then BC?... IF fw is so generous then why wasn't young allowed to occupy a vacant seat???.....

What on earth is your problem? Why so aggressive? i simply reported EXACTLY what i saw. the whole drama took place about ten foot away from me.

in my opinion it was a HORRIBLE way to disprespect a fighter who many people present thought was in serious trouble not long before. he was treated with oxygen in the ring.

I am not a fool, and my comments are neither unfounded nor ridiculous.
why do you say that they are? were you there? If you were Ayling (BC) then i might have expected such bile but what is your problem?

there was plenty of room for them both to sit and to treat a boxer like that, in my opinion, is an absolute disgrace. and no amount of fury from you, mr 'mick sturbs' wll alter my view. so back off, twat.

This thread is absolute Bollocks.

Can you handle the truth. My SN Contact has told me this....."Gary Young was given three VIP passes for the INNER ringside area.|These were for himself, his father and his grandparent. Sports Network are under no contractual obligation to give GY any VIP tickets whatsoever only to promote him and pay him a purse, which on this occasion was far more than he had ever earned in the past. His knockout was unfortunate but part of the sport he partakes in and the medical attantion he received was of the highest quality which ensured a speedy recovery.

Gary Young was not thrown out of the area but told to go and get the passes he had been allocated and to put them on. The Security did their job, their job is to look at passes and not faces. Gary Young could not sit in the area as he had given/sold his passes to a third party therefore, in doing so forfeited his right to a seat.

He was certainly not thrown out of the area by an official but asked to move from a seat allocated for an official. Whether the seats were empty or not this does not give anyone without the correct pass the right to sit in it. GY WAS given VIP treatment but decided to give/sell this privilage to a third party who in turn occupied the seats in his place.

If he had not given his passes away, or sold them, he would have not had any problems at all but this was his choice.

I suggest the writer of this thread finds out tyhe full facts before stirring up anti-SN feelings. No one looks after fighters better than SN but you can't have your cake and eat it.

Fair enough this. Its a fcuking nightmare keeping track on seating at shows anyhow, the last thing you need is fighters offering their passes onto others.

IF he sold his passes then fair enough, i apologise to SN and take back what i said 100%.

i'm pretty amazed that those things are transferrable tho ... seems like just about anybody who knows a boxer on the show could find himself sat next to FW ...

hang on - is there a suggestion that in order to keep BC sweet and keep all these exlcusives coming we've got to keep quiet and suck up to him?

i posted exactly what i saw. if young sold his passes then i was, in part, wrong to criticise SN - for which i apologise. but if people don't like what they get up to then they've every right to speak up and if BC/AA doesn't like it then tough.
