Razor Ruddock, where did he go?

Ruddock pulled a string of 10 wins off after the Morrison fight and then didn't fight again. Anyone know why? I'm curious to why he left the game and didnt try to cash in on another big payday. Even at 42 years old, I bet he could come back and make some noise

Yo cybox, he retired in 2001 due to recurring hand injuries that had pestered him since the 80s.

His last fight against Egerton Marcus was a godo performance, he moved well, was in good shape and showed flashes of big power. His boxing skills & attitude were much better he had adapted to the limitations of his age just as Foreman did. He even said in an interview before the fight "when i was young i could knock a guy out in the 1st rd, now i have to pace myself or i'll get winded"

Ruddock never got back into it after Lewis drilled him. He spent a couple of years trying to escape Don King, then after he was freed he got robbed of what looked like a win against Morrison, only to waste more time trying to escape Murad Muhammad & Ruddocks own bro, who ahd forged his signature on some document before the fight.

Politics kept him out fo the ring and when he came back in 98 he put together a nice string of wins and was def not shot. And guess what RUDDOCK was the original opponent for Vitali K in 2000 but pulled out with i think hepititis, and Chris Byrd got the job.

Now assuming Vitali would suffer the same injury, which he almost certainly would, and the big punching Ruddock would convince him to get out of there much quicker than Byrd could, makes you wonder exactly what would have happened late in 2000, Razor Ruddock defending his WBO belt against a chinny young man named Wlad K.............

Most likely he would have gotten KO’d by VK. Ruddock in his prime was much easier to hit than Byrd, and a past his prime Ruddock would have probably been caught flush with enough clean shots to get stopped before the mid point of the fight.

Wrong, Ruddock was difficult to hit in the later years. He moved very well. Like i said, he had adjusted to his age, the same way Foreman of the 70s 7 Foreman of the 90s are in no way similar.

I believe Ruddock was arrested for armed robbery back in 2000, but I heard that is a rumour and I hope it is.

Pretty sure the only noise he would make at this point is a thud from hitting the canvas with any of the top 10 rated HW's.

Make that at top 10 HW from ANY of the alphabet shams. It's just been too long for him to make a serious return.

Sorry, but the reason he was harder to hit was because he fought 2nd rate fighters in the last few years of his career. Razor did not suddenly develop Jimmy Young's defensive skills when he became 35. In fact, neither did Big George. In his second career, George attained super star status by great self promotion and careful selection of opponents. You won’t find any slick boxers among any of George’s second career opponents. I give him a great deal of credit for fighting Holyfield, but Holyifield was never very hard to find in the ring. Holy was an ATG, but he wasn’t a slick boxer. Great in fighter yes, but he was still generally right in front of you, so George didn’t have to go find him. If George had ever fought anyone like Mike Hunter he probably would have lost just about every round.

George said he would never have fought Lewis during his second career. So I agree with you post.

Everybody loved George. And the fact he could be as good as he was during his second career is truly amazing. But the reality is that he managed that second career brilliantly. He rose in the rankings by fighting carefully selected opponents, and even when he stepped up the competition, his opponents were still selected carefully to allow George to best utilize the skills he had remaining. His loss to Morrison was understandable, because prior to the fight, “The Duke” was recognized as a puncher, who could be hit and didn’t have the greatest chin. He appeared perfect for George. Unfortunately, Morrison and his brain trust prepared perfectly for the fight and Morrison reinvented his style. At least for that fight.

Not looking to denigrate George, just trying to put his second career into perspective.
