Runs in the family...

Former pro, Alan McCullough, finished an astonishing fourth in yesterday's Belfast Marathon with a time of two hours, 31 minutes. The 41-year-old McCullough, elder brother of Wayne, was beaten to the winner's tape by three Kenyans.
There were 14,000 entrants.

PS: The 45-year-old Jim McDonnell has run the London Marathon several times, with a best time of two hours, 49 minutes.

Christ that's impressive! Jim McDonnell really must be incredibly fit to do that time at 49, but McCulloch's time is out of this world. If he had taken up Marathon running in his late 20's imagine what times he would have run!

I wonder what time Danny Williams could do it in (factoring in breaks for bakewell tarts on the way round, of course)?

You could combine the two, Terry. Lay down a bakewell tart in the road every 100 yards. Danny would pass Radcliffe having a piss at about 25 miles I reckon.

excellent time.....

no matter how good Danny gets his cardio he and any other 240+ guy will struggle getting close to 3 hours......

the rower (james cracknell) who just missed 3 hours was amazingly impressive... he was probably double the weight of the athletes who won the race.....

Horses for courses, could a skinny Kenyan KO Tyson?

Danny is a Pro-Boxer not a marathon runner?

I am aware of that BC, hence my facetious post.

If he ran round the ring for 3 rounds, probably.

Bloody hell that's quick

I am training for the NYC marathon in November and will be filled with joy if I break four hours.

Hard work - I am currently at the 35 mile a week mark with six miles to go. Really makes you appreciate what the elite have to do to perform at that level. Paula Radcliffe runs 140 miles a week! :o

Thats 20 miles a day, if she doesnt have a rest day! I never realised her schedule would be that gruelling.

actually, just checking, it's a mere 115 + miles per week plus some other cross training.

She works 7 days and takes the 8th off.

The worst bit seems to be that she gets in an ice bath for an spell after each session

Yep, seen it done, they usually put them in a wheelie bin full of ice water.

Amir was doing that at the Olympics.

The England rugby team do too.

David Tua did that for a time: he hoped it would help reverse his long term wait gain. It didn't.

I also heard that I think it was Dan Goosen bought Tua a $20,000 tread mill for his home in the hope that he would stay in shape.
One writer at the time stated he would have been better off buying him a $200 pair of running shoes and get the Tuaman out pounding the roads.
