Did old-time fighters smoke?

Did people like SRR, Joe Louis, Jack dempsey, or any champ from the old time smoked? I know Monzon was a heavy smoker, like Mayorga....

Jack Johnson did pretty much everything a modern boxer wouldn't be supposed to do - as did Max Baer.

I dont think boxing has had anyone quite like Lew Jenkins . He may be the all -time wildman . Lightweight champ in the 40s, boxing hasnt seen the likes of him before or since. Too many stories to retell . Check out In this corner the book by I believe Peter Heller.

It was said that The Great John L. Sullivan smoked black cigars and drank burbon out of beer steins even when he was in training lol

Same could be said of Harry Greb, trained on whiskey and whores, in that order.
