I always go with his stoppage of Cyclone Hart. He has many other victories that are higher profile but I like this one because he demonstrates outstanding boxing, punching , chin and focus cuz Hart tried to fight him dirty a little bit. Give yours. Explain why.

It might have been to short to qualify for favorite fight, but my favorite knockout was when Hagler fought Loucif Hamani. This fight took place right after Hagler fought for the title and was the victim of a highly questionable decsision, no need to explain everyone remembers. In the second round Hagler unleashed a flurry of punches and knocked Hamani what appeared to be out cold, but much to Hamani's detrement he was upheld by the ropes as he remained defensless. Marvoules Marv took no quarter on his hapless opponent as he continued with his barrage until Hamani was knocked out of the ring. In the post fight interview Hagler talked about not wanting any more fights to go to the hands of the judges. No doubt the Antifurmo fight had an effect on him. But what I liked about Hagler is instead of becoming bitter he focused that much harder and took a negative and turned it into a positive.

Both good choices.

My favourite in terms of action is the Mugabi fight.

But my favourite fight demonstrating Hagler's all-around skills and ability is probably the first Hamsho clash. Hagler was mean, versatile, focused and powerful throughout the whole fight, hammering Hamsho like a steak. His jab was as good as ever, his footwork supreme, and he gave a clinic on how to defeat a come-forward fighter. Hamsho was no pushover and infact a very good fighter, but lost every round and required fifty five stitches to sew his face back together.

I was at that fight M . Hagler was like a machine. Hamsho was a very tough guy too. What a mess his face was.

The 2nd Hamsho fight. Mustafa got dirty, and Hagler decided to make it a short evening with a guy alleged to have one of the best chins in boxing. Hamsho got his first career trip to the canvas that night, followed by his second and third trips.

Technically, I think Hagler was at his best for the Sibson fight.

Yea? What an experience. I bet you gasped at some of the punches; Hagler really teed off on Hamsho at times.

Yes, Marvin had a jab that was like a cross it was just eating Hamsho up .

He was a boring southpaw foot in a bucket plodder. His fights were hard to watch period because of his style......even if he was winning.

Hearns fight aside, I'd say the Mugabi fight also. I'd say its one of the most underrated among his later title defenses. Good action fight, Mugabi was hungry, younger, and determined and it still didn't matter.

The Hamsho fights was him at his peak.

Hamsho would have been champ in a different era. He was a very good challenger. Hagler was clinical in the 2nd fight.

Obvious picks but my two favourite Marvin fights, and my two favourite fights of all time are the Hearns and Mugabi fights, watching these got me into boxing

The Hearns fight got me into boxing when I was 5...so, just for nostalgic purposes, I have to go with that.

Has to be the Hearns fight really... Hagler was slipping physically already by then but what a fight!... and he just refused to lose that night!!!....

The Hearns fight is my favorite.

I'd have to say Hearns. The best 3 rds of boxing ever! Hagler just walked through him. He took all the shots Hearns had, got cut and still marched forward. F**k defence! Lets trade!

Mugabi was a great fight and especially has it was towards the end of Hagler's carrer.

Finally the Minter fight was a clinical piece of boxing. Minter was no where near Hagler and got carried away with all the hype. He was battered! Its a shame Minter didn't try and box rather then trade cos he would have lasted longer...but then again he would have taken more of a beating.

Technically the Minter fight has to be one of Haglers best performances... as is his wins over Hamsho 1, Sibbo and Scypion... in all those fights Hagler dismantled very good and very tough opponents...

I sort of liked the Hagler-Monro 1. Did anyone see the sequel? I heard it was boring.

I have seen the K.O. Abeautiful right uppercut straight left hand combination. Monroe was coldcocked.

Vengeful KO I'm sure. Setting things right. Hart and Monroe had a lot of media hype that Marvin had to walk through ala the politics of the era. They were the "chosen" ones and Marvin had to battle their hype to get his respect. If you happen to remember Philly at the time it was all Monroe and Hart...that's all you'd hear about.

Yes and I always admired Marvin for going out of his way to fight them...In Philly. Goody Petronelli said when he got to Philly with Marvin , Russell Peltz the promoter told him " guys from New England cant fight". Petronneli told him "this one can". Man he had that right.

He didn't. Cabrera landed a punch which looked like it caught Hagler and sent him staggering, but in reality it hit his glove and Hagler lost his footing.

Modify "Mugabi" for "Hearns" and I second Double M's post, specially about the Hamsho fight. In fact, you can also substitute "Hamsho" for "Sibson" and it would also make sense (except for the stitches)

OK you want Hagler's best fight. Against Sugar Ray, he showed just what he was. A can not move or cut the ring off, plod foreward southpaw. He got beat. He blew it. That is Hagler''s legacy as MW. Against Hearn's it was Tommy who lost that fight, Hagler did not win it, Tommy fought foolish.
