Now, you have probably had this issue up before, but since I am new I would like evryones opinion on who have/had the hardest punch in boxing. Personaly I favor Louis followed by Liston and Foreman.

1. Rocky Marciano
2. George Foreman
3. Jope Frazier
4. Mike Tyson
5. Sonny Liston

Earnie Shavers

Saddler

Why do people always give HW as the hardest punchers? P4P it could be any weight. But how do you measure it? KO %? Well if you KO bums then it doesn't count does it?

Upper weight classes: Shavers or Tyson
Middle weight classes: Hearns or Mugabi
Lower weight classes: Gomez or Rosario

Pound-for-pound? Bob Foster.

Not pound-for-pound? Earnie Shavers.

Light heavyweight to heavyweight is much more difficult than say, welterweight to middleweight.

And also, Foster's heavyweight opponents were very durable. Terrell, Frazier, Ali etc...

I happened to see Louis' k.o. of Johnny Paycheck last night. Total devastation.

Julian Jackson had chilling power which seemed to come from nowhere. If you watch is fights his punches don't look that concussive, but many of the fighters he KO'ed were totally out cold in before they hit the canvas, they don't even put there arms out to save themselves.

No doubt. I'd rank Foster as a better puncher than Jackson, it's just with Jackson I cant really see where the power is coming from.

As for the hardest puncher ever, I don't think it's something you can answer definitively, certainly not in a p4p sense.

Uhm... This is Muhammad Ali we are talking about. Not only was he one of the most durable champions of all time, he also had a forty pounds weight advantage!!

Did you conveniently miss Foster's knockouts at light heavyweight? Mike Quarry, the very durable younger brother of Jerry, was on the end of possibly the most brutal one punch knockout of all time, courtesy of Foster's left hook. Dick Tiger was floored only once in a long career before facing Foster... Where he was knocked out by a single left hook, rendering him temporarily deaf. Henry Hank was stopped only once in his long career... By Foster. Vicente Rondon was knocked out cold, his foot left twitching and a stretcher was required to remove him from the arena after a three punch knockout... His skull was cracked in two places.

These are only a few examples. Foster had frightful power.

Yes it surprising he didn't KO old "China Chin" Ali.

If you watch the fight Ali seems to be surprised by how good Fosters jab is.

Good observation. Foster's jab was very good. Fast, powerful and very long. It's actually surprising that Foster had such a good, short hook considering the length of his arms. Normally it's the tall guys that have the hard straight punches (Hearns, Arguello) and the short, stocky ones who have the hard hooks and uppercuts (Frazier, Tyson).

yeah sure im not saying he didn't have power, id be a complete idiot to say that, but ali really did mock him, so i think to be called "hardest puncher" no one should be able to laugh at taking 6 of your punches in the face.

Do you not understand? This is the ever durable Muhammad Ali, with forty pounds over Foster.

It's like Carlos Zarate weighing 118lbs trying to hurt a prime, lightweight Julio Cesar Chavez. Or Kostya Tszyu weighing 140lbs and trying to hurt Carlos Monzon...

I don't know how to measure Tommy Hearns's power, I mean is he as strong as a light heavyweight, super middleweight, or middleweight?

Also Tyson's uppercut was a thing of beauty, especially the uppercuts he set up against Jesse Ferguson.

Probably without regards to weight I'd go with Shavers. In recent times pound for pound, I'd have to go with Julian Jackson. Hearns did KO Duran, Cuevas etc in awesome fashion. But the Way people fall at the hands of Jackson (Norris, Graham etc) is out of this world.
