What! So that's the mark of someone who really wants the job is it? There are any number of people who would give their right nut for the job, but I guess Martin O Neill didn't have nice enough teeth. Maybe they told Scolari they didn't like his hair, or Allardyce that he was too fat.

If it was Brian Barwick I'd be worried but I suspect it's the Daily Star editorial or some such nonsense...

Funny thing about this whole situation did martin oneill ever say he wanted the job? Mclaren was the best of a bad bunch and the top managers didnt want to touch this job for a number of reasons.

1. englands national team is not as good as people think.
2. the press would make their life an absolute misery.

That pretty much sums up sports and the world in general. Everything is more flash then substance. Christ half the NFL and NBA players are more worried about looking good on camera and how to celebrate scoring then anything else.

Has anyone seen the Freitas/Raheem fight? Damn Raheem comes to the ring wearing a kings crown and a fur coat. Then puts in a rather bad performance. He should have worried more about the fight then his entrance garb.

Martin O Neill like many other managers said he wasn't in the running, but he went for an interview.

Apprently he looked aghast when they asked him 'How would you deal with the issue of celebrity footballers' which didn't go down too well with the pratts at the FA. What I don't understand, and forgive me if I am being ignorant, but how does someone like Brian Barwick, who is essentially a pen pusher from TV, know anywhere near enough to be the man running the football association?

Isn't Mcclaren abit of a yes man in regards to his players? I don't think thats the kind of manager you want dealing with big egos. The players might start running the ship instead.

I'm unsure if anybody who posts on this forum has played football for England, Middlesborough or Man.Utd. Possibly the Oxford youth team where Mclaren coached 10 years ago but unlikely....

So I'm not sure we can comment on the 'yes man' attribute.
