I really dont care to much for DLH but his resume is outstanding. I would rate him as a top 50 fighter of all time, but then again I am sure many will dispute that.

Excellent fighter with alot of skill and heart. Deserved a win in his second fight with Mosley, and a loss against Sturm. Was lucky he didn't face Chavez or Whitaker in there primes, and if he had elected to trade with Tito, would have gotten knocked out.

If De La Hoya was robbed against Mosley and Trinidad that should make him 40-2.

But I myself think Quartey got robbed against him which should make him 39-3.

DeLahoya really showed mental toughness and focus with this Mayorga. Ricardo conducted himself in a disgraceful manner leading up to the fight.Oscar stayed with his plan , never lost his cool and conducted himself as a real pro before during and after the fight. As a fighter I see him as a pros pro. Fought everyone , never ducked a tough challenge and had some huge wins. What else can we ask for?

Very good question. This could be the excitement talking, like you saw my reactions after the 6th round Migz but i think DLH should be considered as a great. Not in the top 10 but he is definately up there. That fight with Mayorga made me the happiest man alive.

Great fighter, but not in the top 50 greats, maybe in the top 100 greats. a win over Floyd Mayweather, Jr could enlarge his legacy

You'd have to place him amongst some of the top champions but I wouldn't rank him alongside the likes of Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns etc... what people forget is that boxing is much more diluted now... there is about half the talent that there was 20 years ago but 4 times as many champions!...

Manuel Medina is a five-time featherweight titlist.

Oh, and Oscar de la Hoya only held a WBO title at 130. 147 and 154 are the only weight divisions in which he actually tried to unify.
He beat Sturm for WBO at 160.

Not a legend?

No doubt he has amazing credentials.

Olympic gold. Only fighter to win nine world championships in a record six weight classes.

Highest paid non HW in boxing history.

Amatuer career record of 223-5 with 163 knockouts

Ring fighter of the year 95. #1 P4P 97-99

Generated almost $0.5 Billion in PPV sales alone.

Also a very successfull promoter.

On paper he is a living legend. :TU:

I'm glad you said that becuause hes my favourite fighter. But i would classify a legend somebody like Sugar Ray Robinson or Roberto Duran, DLH isn't as high as them in rankings.

yeah if you look closer at his titles the 9 time champion and 6 division champion is a myth, 3 of those titles were of the WBO kind (although he did win the IBF title at lightweight as well), his current title is also a farce with the WBC stripping castillejo for fighting vargas instead of mayorga, vargas was ranked higher but mayorga had his ranking bought, mosley has a better claim, and both their claims suck as much as any of the other title holders in that division because none of them have faced each other, so oscar is a proper world champion in 3 divisions, i cannot have him in the top 50 of all-time, top 100 probably, but not the top 50

Thats a good point. Definately top 100, top 50 im not 100% sure about because there are many good fighters especially around the 70s - 80's and before. But DLH has had an incredible career no doubt about it

Good question this one.

I'm a big fan of his, but I think he falls just outside the elite group of boxers in history.

He's invited to the wedding, but not the actual ceremony, just the evening reception!!!!!! :TU:

the perfect answer....if he fought Floyd and won, do you think he could be closer to the elite or even an elite?

He is a great fighter, I think his prime was light welterweight, although the Chavez he beat was faded. I wouldnt put him in the elite group of fighters though, top 100 of all time probably.

I think DLH was a great figther. He took on the best out there and didn't just pick his fights. He fought a lot of naturally bigger men and took fights that were a real tall order for him. I don't think he's a Duran or a Leonard but he'd give anyone a fight.

Another great question.

I would have to concede, that if he beat PBF, he would be in the elite group.

It would be hard to deny him, when you consider how highly Floyd is rated. :TU:

We'll just have to wait and see. If anyone is going to beat Floyd its going to DLH. But with Floyd Snr not taking part i dont think its going to be easy for Oscar to adjust to a new trainer for one fight. If he does decide to do this and beats Floyd it will be a historic moment because Floyd is an up and coming great and if Oscar can beat him on his last fight it would be great.
