Oscar injured in win!
Planned September 16 fight could be delayed
WBC super welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya tore a muscle in his left forearm on Saturday night during his demolition of Ricardo Mayorga in Las Vegas. According to the L.A. Times, he is also suffering from a slight tear of the rotator cuff. "I will not have surgery on my rotator cuff," he told the paper. "I will try to let it heal on its own along with medication." He did not specify what actions will be taken for the forearm injury. The Golden Boy has mentioned Floyd Mayweather Jr., Winky Wright and Ricky Hatton as possible opponents in what could be Oscar's last fight, tentatively slated for September 16 provided his injuries are healed in time. Mayweather Jr., is the son of Oscar's trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., who is against an Oscar-Floyd Jr. clash

I'm not suprised to see him mentioned. Will it happen? That's another matter. I have to say though, as much as the world (and PBF) seems to assume Oscar-Floyd is set in stone, I'm not so sure. After all, it's the Golden Boy who'll be calling the shots. And with the whole Floyd Snr issue, who knows?
Big incentive for Hatton to look good on Saturday (As if there wasn't already).

Step too far for Hatton, he needs to bed in as a welter and then bed in as a Light Middle before he'd be ready.
I thought there would be only a two name shortlist (maybe Tito also).

Not so sure I'd want that fight to happen, Ricky would probably retire off of it.

I'm sure Ricky could retire now financially - probably even before the Tszyu fight if some of the figures I have read were correct.

Just the way he talks though when he goes on about only 3 more fights and the like and how he won't go on forever. A big pay day against DLH might make him consider retirement I think. Although, a lot of fighters talk like that I suppose.

I'm not saying he'd win, far from it. That's exactly the reason why I wasn't suprised to hear him on a shortlist. But if his name is being mentioned by Oscar, and he can look good winning, it's hello big profile in the US, without even fighting DLH.

Very good point.
If PBF moves up to fight, and beat Oscar, he might fancy his chances against Winky Wright, IF he gets past Taylor, and IF he was serious when calling out Winky some months ago.
Then we lose PBF V Hatton, which would be tragic.

I think its PBF and the other names are there to stop PBF asking for silly money. DLH-Hatton just doesn't make sense - hatton has only 1 big win. PBF/Winky/Tito are all legacy fights (and more money) - beating Hatton at 154 would not do anything for a legacy (unless he had beat PBF/Cotto/etc etc too). People would just say - so what Hatton was a 140lber and overated anyway if DLH beat him.

I watched the post fight press conference and the names he mentioned there were Mayweather, Margarito & Trinidad. I didn't hear him say anything about Hatton, but he may have done so afterwards. It sounded as though he already had somebody in mind as he did say people would be surprised with the decision he makes. Regarding Floyd he said there would be no fight unless Mayweather Snr was in his corner and he also said he wouldn't fight Trinidad at 160 lbs. I got the impression Margarito was high on his list. That would be a great fight but so would Hatton.

I have a feeling that Oscar might take on Mayorga, he's the danger man nobody else wants to fight remember.

Do you mean Margarito? The only fights that make sense are Mayweather, Mosley, Trinidad, Wright, Taylor....(the last 2 are unwinable), Trinidad isn't coming back, Mosleys fighting Vargas again.

Think Oscar schools Margarito personally.
Margarito will not be nearly as effective at Light Middle (as it showed vs Santos) cause alot of his success has been due to the size and his strength at Welter.
DLH will be took quick and I think will take his shots, although I would expect him to be back foot boxing this time.

Margarito? Maybe. I still think this would pale into insignificance compared to the storylines that a DLH-PBF match up could make. Father v Son. Golden Boy v Spoilt Brat. Olympian v Olympian. Its all there.
Margarito is a fight for those in the game, a PBF fight is one that could capture the general sport fan's interest.

That's if he isn't forced to fight Urkal.

Hatton would not beat Margarito, he's got more chance beating Mayweather. Margarito would stand and trade with him and Hatton would run out of gas and the Lager sessions would come back to haunt by round 8.

Hmm, I've never seen Hatton look short of gas in a fight yet. However, Margarito probably hit too hard for Hatton to overwhelm him and contain him. Those long punches would really hurt.

Vilches, but he did say he was sick for that one.

I thought he looked more disinterested than anything else that night, was a pretty lousy performance, though he still won with ease.

It was a lack of motivation against Vilches - Hatton was stale.
He certainly wouldnt have that problem against 'Tony The Tiger'!

wasn't it when calzaghe pulled out of a show, hatton coming in at fairly late notice? (back when calzaghe and hatton's reputations were at an all time low, those were the days...) or was that one pedersen?
let's see how hatton does vs collazo before making predictions. hatton's really a light welter. but all this stuff about oscar being able to beat him? no way ricky's going up to light middle, imo. anyhow... like tszyu, oscar's not been fighting often. he won't have that sharpness to compete with ricky below 154. hatton's a bit too rough, frenetic, nasty for him. let's not all forget, tszyu was an outstanding modern champion and what ricky did was a major achievement
to me, tszyu was more accomplished (if not as sturdy) and was a more efficient offensie machine than the nelson who fought jimmy mac and the pedroza who fought mcgiggle (as azumah used to call him). beating tszyu was a huge achievement. what peeves me is that once someone loses, everyne decides that the guy was 'old', had something wrong with him, was exposed, shot blah blah. now with oscar coming off a deceptively good win, it's like oscar's a class above everyone which is horse shit

Did you hear him between rounds? He said he wanted to quit and kept spitting yellow flem.

De La Hoya would murder Hatton, of that i am sure. For the record, i also believe De La Hoya will spank Mayweather if they fight (unless Mayweather is backing of all night making a stinker of it).
Hatton should forget about all other options and start calling out Mayweather, i believe he has a great chance of beating him. Mayweather will be beaten soon, certainly if he fights De La Hoya next. And it will be the first man to beat him that gets all the props! I'd like that man to be Hatton.
