JOHN MURRAY - Was upset today, but not surprised to hear that Kevin Mitchell had withdrawn from the purse bids which were due to place Wednesday the 10th May for a British eliminating contest. It was being tried to get John taken out of the eliminating series, claiming that John was a World Champion, when clearly he is only a world YOUTH champion. Let’s hope that both boys keep winning and that the fight can take place later down the line for better money.

GARY OCONNER - Moved to 5-0 the other Friday with a second points win over Peter Buckley who replaced the original opponent on the night. Now down to fight London prospect Wayne Goddard on the 26th May at York Hall and this should be just the test he requires after a comfortable start to his career.

BANK HOLIDAY BOXING - Tickets are now out for the next VIP show at the George Carnell leisure centre in Manchester on Sunday the 28th May 2006. Although not managed or promoted by VIP, the new local welterweight prospect Prince Arron has been added to the show, full card will be out next week.

Are you not confirming he is a world champion of sorts? Does the belt say he is, do the WBC?

All a bit odd but I agree a much, much bigger fight down the road and wasted now in any case.

This is a big fight in a year or two for a meaningful prize.

Does that mean Murray get's a shot at the title then by default?

C'mon - lets learn from the light middle merry go round of a few years ago - this fight is HOT now. A defeat at this early stage would not write the loser off. Disappointed that this one is not happening - its a potentially excellent fight.

Your speaking as a fan without any investment. Both guys will earn more by building a big fight for the future. If Benn, Eubank and Watson had met at this stage the 90's would have been a bore instead they revived British Boxing. Think business!

I am an old romantic BC, I like to think of boxing as a sport not a business. I think thats why I find the whole game so frustrating!

I agree with BoxingChat. Not so much from a business perspective, but as a fight fan. Let's see em square up in two years when they are both fully matured.

By then Murray will have tightened up his defence, and Mitchell will have learned not to load up all the time. It will be a cracking fight between two accomplished men as opposed to a cracking fight between two talented boys.

Yes, I agree - they are both babies (relatively speaking) let them develop a bit and assess them both then before getting a match.

I agreed (although in hindsight it didn't work out) with the all the parties involved in not letting Spencer Oliver and Michael Brodie go at it when they were in their prime.... They both ozzed class and surely it would have been better if it would have been an all British World title fight, same with Patrick Mullings - he could have been a meaningfull challenger to one of the others in a world title fight.

Same with Hatton and Witter (and too some degree Magee), look at the magnitute of a Witter vs Hatton fight now, than 3/4 years ago when it was first proposed... Although Hatton and Magee have squared off, it was a good fight and I'm sure wouldn't be scoffed if it happend again for a world title.

The Light Middleweights were a different kettle, I don't think anyone predicted world titles for any of the lot - they looked strictly European level at best, plus there were some fab world champions at the time. So they should have fought and perhaps the winner of a little torunament could have called out a world champion.

My gut feeling is though that Mitchell and Murray will be more like the Light Middles than Hatton or Witter.
