What would Mayweather gain from a De La Hoya fight?

Yeah, hard to imagine eh?

I believe also, that the top of that list is only superceded by a very few heavyweight fights, DLH outsells most heavyweight title fights as well. In fact, I may be right in saying that his fight with trinidad is the 2nd highest selling PPV ever.

Holyfield v Foreman 1.4 Million.
Tyson v Holyfield 2 did 2 million, more than the 1st one.

DLH is a money making machine only outdone by Tyson in the history of boxing, and Ali of course when put into perspective. Without Ali, boxing would never have become the huge industry it now is.

Yes, their second fight is the biggest ever PPV. Had Foreman and Tyson fought it would have outdone even that, it would probably have done 3 million.

Do you think DLH-Mayweather would eclipse DLH-Trinidad? I'm not sure it would. Trinidad had such a big following himself, where Mayweather does not. I would guess a DLH-Mayweather match up would do 1,000,000-1,200,000 buys, but mainly because of it being DLHs last fight and the impressive performance against Mayorga.

Agreed, Trinidad was almost as popular as DLH with a rabid puerto rican following. Oscar was more maintstream, with lots of young hispanic girls snail trailing their knickers whenever he fought.

shit, 3 million at $50 a pop, thats $150m in US PPV only, plus live gate and international rights.... Tyson and Foreman would have probably got minimum $40m each

Trinidad was very popular... he was in many ways the anti-de la hoya....
Oscar got all the pretty young girls buying PPV... Tito got all the thugz buying PPV ;-)

From a financial point of view I think De La Hoya-Margarito would do good numbers and generate some serious $$$ – purely from a Hispanic perspective if the fight was on Mexican Independence day.
For the same reason De La Hoya-Rivera is also do-able, Golden Boy and Don King proved they can work well together and Rivera has been getting rave reviews for his performance against Terra Garcia.

But Rivera was beaten by Collazo at 147 lbs so if Hatton knocks the shit out of Collazo, Rivera will hardly be seen as a difficult opponent for DLH at 154 lbs. Terra Garcia has only fought on TV twice. The first time he was knocked cold by Travis Simms, the second time he was put down five times so difficult to assess how good he is/was.

You are right about that, i remember sitting next to a Hispanic lovely at the DLH-Hopkins weigh in and she took every opportunity to scream "Oscar!" and wave hysterically.

I have heard that more than 50 million hispanics are living in the USA. they are enthusiastic and they love boxing. so it is no surprise that a lot of young chicas and gay chicos buy PPVs.

LOL at gay chicos...

Fact is aside from baseball the latinos dont make much impact on traditional US team sports where genetically the arent suited ie American football, Basketball and Ice hockey....therefore it probably isnt as appealing for the latinos to watch...

This mean that boxing gets much larger proportion of the latin population tuning in...

Bubi, you are right the US has a lot of "latin people" In LA the "whites" are the ethnic minority now......

I suppose Hopkins vs Trinidad was effected by September 11th... I'm sure not that many US citezens were thinking "don't forget to buy the boxing".

Good points, i've yet to see the fight, but by all accounts Rivera looked very good...

except for hardcore fight fans, margarito is relatively unknown compared to mayorga...probably would do about same as oscar-rivera---IMO about 600-700,000!! :TU:
