Collazo wants immediate rematch!
Luis Collazo, who lost his WBA welterweight title by a razor-thin decision against England's Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton on Saturday in Boston, has asked Hatton to make good on his post-fight promise to grant him a rematch. "Ricky and Team Hatton were great sportsmen before and after our fight on Saturday," Collazo said from his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. today. "I take Ricky as man of his word. He said I gave him his toughest fight ever. He admitted that I hurt him on several occasions. He said he knew the fight was close. He also said he would give me a re-match. Now he needs to make good on that promise. In the spirit of good sportsmanship, I think it would be only right for our second fight to take place on his home turf in Manchester. I would be honored to accept his invitation for an immediate rematch in England."

If Ricky wants to stay at Welter he needs to quash all the doubters and beat Luis fair and square...

That should be a red flag right there. Probably a miniature flag being waved camply by a 6 foot guy with 9 foot hair, but a flag nonetheless.


Hatton should forget welter. The only names there have either been picked off by PBF already, or are matches against big, big boys. Or Baldomir, who would generate about £7. He'll do himself no favours stopping at 147.

I'd be suprised if they came back to England to fight, would go back on the whole lets conquer America theme thet seem to be going for.

Course he does, all that money or back to oblivion on Don King undercards - it's a no brainer. Never happen though.

Although I think that Ricky won the fight, I feel Collazo would win a rematch unless Ricky adds something new to the mix. I felt Collazo was working out Ricky more and more as the fight went on and if it was an old 15 rounder he probably would of won. I feel that in a rematch, Collazo would know what to do from the start and not drop those early warming in rounds and up his work rate to try and match Ricky's. He'd also load up on the right hook more after watching the tape of how often he caught Hatton with it.

He’s screaming cos he knows Hatton is his best chance of top dollar. But he should forget it.

I doubt they are going to fill the city of manchester stadium with a collazo fight, Mayweather maybe, but not Collazo. DLH, definetly, could be the biggest fight ever on British soil that one, not that it will happen.

Would be doable with a couple of other british fighters on the undercard. Maybe Hatton with Witter and Woods on the undercard and maybe a HW if Warren will let any good ones go for the night (although don't hold breath on that one)

Still doubt it, it's a very long time since a football ground was filled with a boxing crowd, last fighter to do it I think was McGuigan at Loftus Road, has there been a more recent one in the UK. Hatton just isn't as well known as McGuigan, and without terrestrial exposure never will be. McGuigan was also hugely popular in West London because of the huge numbers of Irish and Irish descent in Acton, Ealing, Hammersmith and Shepherd's bush.

I don't think there's any British fighter who could fill a football stadium. Calzaghe, with the right opponent, could draw big numbers at the millenium stadium, but not fill it.

Problem with footie stadiums is that they generally need an opponent like a big name American to be filled. Which means US networks bankrolling things. Which means 2am start and match-day noise from an open-air stadium in the middle of the night. It's just not going to happen.

Notwithstanding Cardiff's closing roof. But that stadium is massive, the view from anywhere above mid-height would be crap.

Lewis v Bruno at Cardiff Arms Park. Nobody has close to the pull of those two though.

You need heavyweights realy, they always talked about Hatton Witter at Mane Rd but was never realy going to happen. If anyone in britain could do it Hatton could although he would be best fighting a couple of times on terrestrial to bring the fans to him. Do FA have a contract with sky because if they were looking at the long term that would make sence.

how's he going to face collazo if - providing he stays at welter, which he won't! - he's obliged to face Oktay Snorkal? you know, the guy who took step aside, that Collazo was meant to fight, because Sauerland won purse bids...

Lots of fighters could fill Withdean football stadium, admittedly it only holds 4 thousand though

king won the purse bids and wanted to stage it stateside. urkal had those visa problems though didn't he.

the title isn't all important though is it. collazo wouldn't care if he was offered the rematch with no title on the line.
