Anyone know the name of the music that the BBC used to introduce their boxing shows with in the 70's/80's?

Not sure if you mean the Sportsnight theme, but several times they used a section from the song "Music" by John Miles, released in 1976.

the BBC had a great tune. It was a piano playing. I remember it before the McGuigan fights.

Its the best Boxing intro tune of all time. It send a shiver up your spine similar to the one a fighter experiences when walking to the ring.

It starts off with a drum beat,.......... T, T, T

Ddn, Ddn, Ddn, Ddn, D, D, D........

Then goes in to a calypso type tune.

ITV's is good but the BBc one is the best.

It is good, have a few McGuigan/ Dave McAuley fights with the music, but ITV's old one - that they brought back only to stop it, is the daddy.

I quite like the ITV one BEFORE their great one also.

yes as a previous poster said the beebs one was probably "music" by john miles - i always hated that tune when it was in the charts

the old bbc boxing intro music is called "sir percy" by the tony king orchestra, and what an intro it was, still never been bettered by any boxing channel in my opinion, brings back great memories from back in the day

The ITV one though, I could listen on loop for the entirety of my life.

Love that one

The ITV boxing theme brought as much excitement for me as when you'd see the 20th Century Fox or MGM lion clips at the start of a film.

I always thought the theme from ITV's 'Fight Night' with Gary Newbon was brilliant.
