Following the cancellation of tomorrow’s scheduled press conference, the blue touch paper on the Froch- Magee showdown has finally been lit.
Over the weekend, Frank Maloney unnecessarily fired into current British and Commonwealth champion Carl Froch and his promotional team, Hennessy Sports.
In an outrageous press release Maloney made ludicrous accusations and denials even suggesting that professional sabotage was on the cards. Furthermore Maloney challenged Carl to quote him on what the champion perceived as rubbish.
Well here it is!
“It’s all on record for Maloney- 2nd February 2006- his words not mine, “ countered Carl.
“He said that my opponents are hand picked- do me a favour!
“He said that Groenewald gave me trouble- no chance. He hasn’t got a clue!
“He even said that he could beat my opponents- now that’s what I call trash talk!
“So what does he say to that?
“Both Maloney and Pat Magee have been waxing lyrical about me- well now they can have some straight back.
“Those two started the trash talk on this fight and I’ll finish it on Friday.
“Brian is the pawn in all this. Maloney now claims he has no agreement with Magee. So how come he declared a four fight deal in a BBC article?
“And now he says I’m the favourite! What happened to Brian winning a world title in Belfast after dispatching me? Don’t worry Maloney, I’ve got your number.
“But he can rest assured it will still be a good show on Friday even when I retire two Magees on one night!
“And for the record, I am my own man and they are all my own words. Although I will admit they are edited by the press officer because he tells me that I can’t go around calling Maloney and Pat Magee the names that I do.“
Then Froch dealt with the speculation of his supposed silence and the latest cancellation by the Maloney camp.
“Let’s make this clear- I’ve been dying to kick off the proceedings.
“But I’ve been waiting for Maloney Promotions to call my team. As I understand it Maloney has now cancelled four, yes FOUR, press opportunities for this fight!
“Hennessy Sports are not the promoter’s for this show so tell me why they are having to chase scheduled press conferences?
“I was really looking forward to tomorrow!
“ Now I’ll just have to wait until Friday to give all three both barrels!” Froch concluded.
