UNBELEIVABLE...Toney vs Wlad for Nov

Iole and DHB have said this fight is a possibility. what a bad matchup for Toney. At least it'd be a reason for him to really get himself in shape. which is what we need to see from him. he must feel he can slip Wlad's shots enough to get him frustrated, and then counter him with him fighting down to Toney.

I would prefer to see Toney take on the ambling freal Valuev. Klitschko's trip hammer jab and ability to hold on the inside are terrible stylistic problems for Toney to overcome.

If Toney can weather the initial storm in the first few rounds he has a good chance of KOn Wlad, Im still not convinced of Wlads stamina if he is pushed into the late rounds and Toney will make him miss which will tire him out.

But all Wlad will need to do is pace himself. Toney is hardly gonna set him a pace to tire himself out enough for him to take advantage. Wlad is too big, strong and skilled (not saying he is more skilled than Toney though)

Toney will need to be in tip top condition. Fair play to him for taking on Wlad, but this is a bad matchup.
Wlad has the perfect tools to beat Toney, great long range shots, physical strength, and punch power. Unless Toney gets inside in the first 6 rounds, I cannot see him winning.
If he gets inside the jab early, and starts whaling on Wlad inside, then he's got a chance of panicking the big guy and making him tire.

If Toneys in good shape I can see him winning this on a late stoppage... but he has to be in good enough shape to fight at a brisk pace and be able to get inside and wear Klitchenko down to the body... this could be a good fight if Toney is ready for it but if Toney is fat and out of shape it'll be a maul and Klitch will win on points.

Toney's major problem is that he doesn't have the kind of concussive power to scare Wlad. Wlad implodes against guys who scare him because they are landing hard shots. Whilst Toney is a good technical puncher, and a solid hitter, I don't know that his shots will have much effect against Wlad. If Wlad feels he can walk through Toney's shots, I see Toney getting steamrollered.

I don't see Toney as having any chance in this. Wlad is too strong physically and punches far too hard for Toney. He has nothing to fear from Toney in terms of punch power. I think Wlad ends Toneys career in this fight, that's how much of a mis match I think it is. Out of all the heavyweights out there, Wlad is the toughest one for Toney.

I am happy to bet a grand that Klitschko wins if this fight comes off.

I would not give Toney much hope of winning this fight, i think Wlad would spark him.

I think that Wlad people are looking at Toney and thinking that he doesn't possess a heavyweight punch, i'd say that your assesment is pretty spot on for me, If Toney can get inside then a stands a chance of winning, Wlad would have to keep Toney off with his long range boxing something he can do, as we've seen in previous fights

All this about "if Toney was to be in top condition", it's simply not going to happen! James Toney will do what James Toney wants to do, and that's it!
IMO, it's an extremely bad match-up for JT; Sure, his had great skills, but if I can't help thinking if Wlad connects cleanly, buy, it's all over for Toney! Wlad is way bigger and a great deal stronger, not to mention his fitness will be superior to that of Toney's!

no way current Toney at heavy is better than either version of Byrd Wlad beat the crap out of....
Toney had better have some good scientist on his team this time... he needs 30lbs of muscle, 30lbs less fat and 6 inches in height....

Whilst I think Byrd would beat the fat Toney that fought Rahman (but not the slimmer Toney that beat Holyfield) I do give Toney a better chance against Wlad than I did Byrd.... Byrd couldn't handle Wlad size and seemed to be tence in there. Perhaps Toney will also struggle with Wlad size, but I don't think he will have the same fear that Byrd had and he won't be as tense. He'll give it a go.

Hasn't everyone figured out Toneys now only milking his name and not training, Toney doesn't have the punch, workrate or reach/height to give Wlad any problems. Wlads management are keeping him away from punchers thought, Brewster, Briggs and Rahman could possibly all expose his chin again.

Shannon Briggs doesn't even deserve to be mentioned as a contender yet... Lets see him against the winner (or even loser) of the Samil Sam vs Jammel McCline match up, before calling him a contender.
I don't see why anyone is so against this Toney vs Wlad match, whilst Wlad is the favourite, I see it as a good one.
Toney might be the only "heavyweight" who can take Wlad's punches all day without budging (he might not, but signs are he can take a heavyweight punchers shot's and well).
Toney is out of shape, but he drew for the Heavyweight title in his last match.... against a decent puncher with a good jab, even at this weight he is probably the best non champion heavyweight out there (between him and Brewster who isn't fit) so I take my hat off to Wlad for fighting Toney.

I'm not AGAINST this fight, just think Toney will be physically overmatched. He'd have more chance against the plodding Valuev. Wlad, though he has some flaws which will undoubtedly be exposed again, is big, strong and technically correct with his punches.[/quote]

I reckon Brewster might be able to do it too

Watching the 5'9" Toney school that giant 7'2" Valuev would be a joy to behold.
Shame he has chosen a rejuvinated long armed banger in Klitschko.
I am sure James will handle himself (dis)gracefully at the press conference but at least it won't be boring!

I have to say, rather like Kev Keegan, if Toney were to beat Wlad, I'd love it!

It could well go the way of the Bryd fight with Toney simply unable to close the gap, but he does have some hope in that he has always been able to slide the punches off his gloves rather than just taking them on the gloves. This gives him the chance to move forward in a way that Bryd never did.

Toney will be a sitting duck, and even if he was to get himself in shape (which we know he wont) he'd still get beaten. Wlad late TKO.

Horrible fight. The size difference makes it a unatural freak show type event. Toney should be spared having to square up against such giant odds - someone with so many huge advantages over him.
He's that much better he MIGHT find away to win, but would have to take some serious punishment anyway and could end up seriously hurt.
Deffinitely not worth it.

I have to say, if Toney were to beat Wlad Klitschko at this stage of his career, I would have to rank him in the top 10 P4P all time.

toney's got the chin to take anything wlad dishes out.

i also favour toney to win this one late on.
toney's counter right will hurt wlad eventually.
