He was 3-0 up in the 1st set at the French open, and then lost the next 5 on the trot, and ended up losing it 6-4.

Sounds like he was unlucky. Came back to take a 2-1 lead, then his back twanged and he couldn't move properly in the final set after winning the 3rd 6-1!

He called the trainer out first when he was 3-0 up int 3rd set (1 set all) but I think he's gonna be a bottler, look at the Nalbandian match!!

He was at the Scott Harrison v Nedal Hussein fight last year, good lad!!

Remember him saying he'd like Scott Harrison to train him to hekp improve his fitness? Er, maybe not such a good idea!!!

Murray is still a growing lad, he might need another year or so to make it to the top professional fitness. In a way coming from these shores isn't a great thing, he's already got all the pressure of the press on him already, when really he's not that far out of the novice range for a tennis player.

Murray is overhyped imo, talented yes, but has the wrong attitude and also seems to be injury prone already... I don't see him lasting as long as Henman has...

He is certainly capable of surpassing Henman but he needs to tone down with the silly remarks.

Its all one thing having a laugh with your buddies and slating each others nation but when you are in the public eye the way he is you need to control the mouth.

I remember him we used to always see him at the local courts( I live in the same town as he grew up) when he was a young pup and the time he spent training and playing was admirable and with the proper team around him and dedication he should be able to win a grand slam or two

murray's progress has been disappointing this year. he should be coming thru a bit better than he is at the moment if he's the top prospect we all hope he will be.

the tennis tour is a tough place and he must improve that fitness if he is to get anywhere close to the top 10.

dont like to see tennis - a crap sport - on a boxing site. the only tennis player i liked to watch was jimmy conners and he was more like a fighter than a tennis player

Out of interest, where is it actually reported about Murray and the Scottish first minister saying these things? Some news website or other?

The problem with tennis just as with golf is that you can become as rich as crassus without actually ever winning a tournament.

That does mean that the truly great can dominate for aeons ( as we are seeing now ) it also means that others can get coast to a comfortable lifestyle without ever needing to show the hunger of a champion.

I have never met Murray, so may be being unfair. But, it strikes me he could do with losing the 'Kevin the Teenager" surliness sooner rather than later.

he has the ability to be way better than Henman, but the latter's affability is what has made him popular

Well, Henman is the quintessential plucky British loser isn't he, and the English love a good loser.

If he was Australian he'd have been hung by now.

That’s the problem with sport in this country, we both tolerate and almost actively embrace mediocrity. The LTA should be ashamed of themselves, but I expect they are more interested in the quality of the buffet for their next get-together than anything else.

Henman is a millionnaire apparently, despite never winning a single grand slam. He's one many other ATP tournaments over the years however, and all of those plus his endorsements carry prize money. My guess is that Henman would have traded most of that money to win Wimbledon, he just wasn't good enough mentally, despite having the right game to win on grass.

What is worth bearing in mind in Golf and Tennis is that there are a lot of professionals entering each tournament, and the prize money goes a long way down the list.

The US tennis scene is in big shit right now though, who have they got aside from Roddick, and the Williams sisters, who don't seem that bothered about Tennis any more?

In the UK, the reason Henman was supported, was that aside from lunk-chinned Rusedksi, there was nobody else TO support. In the USA, they have generally been spoilt rotton for talent, so underachievers are soon binned.

Never forget Rusedski's classless comments about Sampras being 'part of a past era' in the opening round of the US open in 1992. Rusedski got beat in the next round, Sampras went on to win the tournament for the 5th time, and Rusedski went on to achieve nothing.

The point is though nobody ever seems to bring our lot to task over their performances. If …sorry…. when Henman loses you have people like Sue Barker on TV saying how well he did, or how unlucky he was, or how it wasn’t his day today. It never bloody is!

We’ve debated this before with regard to athletics, and people like Mark-Lewis Francis who has achieved about as much in athletics as Stephen Hawking, yet is draped in bling and admired by (most of) the public at large.

Any form of sponsorship for these people should be rescinded until they win something of note. If I hear the word “hero” in association with Tim Henman ever again I may very well proceed to the BBC offices and demand an explanation.

Nelson was a hero, Colonel H. Jones was a hero….. Tim Henman is not a “hero”. If I had my way, “Henman Hill” would be noted for being a crucifixion site for it’s namesake, as opposed to a viewing platform for strawberry-munching, champagne coifing tools.

I think one of the reasons the english have learned to embrace losers is the fact that before the tounament has begun you claim to have the champ in henman then so much pressure is heaped on his mediocre shoulders he cant take it and fails then it seems to be more acceptable to find a scapegoat which usually falls with the governing body a la the soccer team and the blame lies at the manager than actually admitting that other countries are lightyears ahead of englands sportsmenin most departments i.e. diet, lifestyle and attitude.

I'm seemingly one of the few English people that doesn't think we have a marvelous football team for example. Could it just be that many other other countries have better ones than we do.....
