Looking at the results i see Sam Webb lost in the 3rd round against Alex Stoda last night.
did anyone here go to the fight? what was the ending a KO or Cut?

i was there last nite ,webb was floored in the second heavily and was about to be stopped in the third when a big left opened a terrible cut over his eye which was soon stopped but it saved him from being KOed

Cheers, Bit of a shocker then, I always like watching Sam in the amatuers, thought he'd make the transition to the pro's, i guess theres still time though, 1 defeat doesn't mean the end of his pro career

Yeah, but the manner of defeat was not pretty. The guy didn't have a win, and though he looked big, he didn't look that great.

It was a nasty defeat - he was in big trouble and the cut was horrible. He is just easy to hit; and had struggled in his last two fights I believe.

I actually think he would have gone on to win . I don't think Sky showed the first round but from the way the commentators were talking he won it . He was winning the second too until being caught with a peach of a left hook with heavily floored him and caused his head to hit the canvas on the way down (further shaking him up) . He held and moved and got his way through the round .

In the the third it was a fairly even round , Webb didn't seem as fluid as before the knockdown but his head was definetly clear . Then good left hook landed just above the right eye making a terrible y shaped cut . he was let fight on for about 20 seconds after Mick Williamson had wiped it , but blood had started streaming down and the referee waved it off . The commentators noted that the cut was reminiscent of Henry Cooper's against Ali and I have to say it was the first thing that came to my mind , absolutely dreadful cut .

Webb will probably be back , but he's not the new Ricky Hatton he was touted to be by some .

webb was really hurt but i do think he can come back from this but he has to tighten his defence more. His work has notbeen effective in his last two fights. I thought his previous fight should of been a draw and i just think webb has been overated. They said he was the ricky hatton of the south but the only thing he has in common is that he cuts the same.

did anyone happen to see the lloyd otte stoppage, what happened there

otte got caught with a massive uppercut that decked him. he got up but was hurt and a big right dropped him again. he got up but the ref quite rightly stopped it. Barrington Brown has a 4-2 record now i think and looked really classy. Looked confident when he got into the ring and was up to the job. apparently he only took up boxing 18months ago. looks a good fighter

I think Webb would have been struggling without the cut, he looked pretty shaken up in there. He may have been able to come back to win, but it's not a good sign when you're struggling against guys who are 0-2. I didn't expect him to lose last night, but having seen his last few fights, I figured a defeat mightnot be too long in coming. Exciting fighter, but you should be going to war so early in your career. Hope he can come back though.

Sam Web, more Farnell than Hatton, or is he even that good? :-?

I can't see that Webb can have many complaints about the stoppage. It looked like a punch caused the cut too. When he was down and subsequently getting tagged some refs might have jumped in there and then...infact if it had been his imported opponent who had been decked that heavily and getting hit hard afterwards, I think most British refs would have stopped it.

It could just be one of those things, but Webb could either be struggling with changing over to the pros, or he's going backwards. When he was at Bromley and Downham, he used to be a lovely boxer on the front or back foot and could fight hard when he had to. Now he just seems hell bent on tearing into his opponents. The Hitman of the south tag was always misleading. Webb's been in some fantastic battles, but his true style was never that similar to Hatton in my opinion.

Hope he can get on track again.

Should he be fighting at Welterweight? His opponent looked quite big next to him.....

Webb was lucky to make it out of the second round. A lot of refs would have stopped him after the knockdown he was all over the place. Webb is clearly not going to be as good as hyped.

E, not sure which weight he should be at to be honest. I believe it's more a question of the style he's using in the ring and maybe the coaching he's getting in the gym. He used to use his brain and his skills much more in my opinion.

to be honest, he took a proper pasting off that foreign kid and i'll be very surprised if we ever really hear from him again. that was a crushing loss against a guy with a 0-2 record and UNLESS there are serious mitigating factors that we are unaware of then i can't see how he can ever hope to come back and seriously the threaten the likes of Muttley, Anderson, Jennings etc for domestic honours.

it's a shame to see a kid with such high hopes go by the wayside, but that's boxing i suppose.

I understand what you're saying but the majority of the time Webb would make an easy fight for him into a real tear-up! and this doesn't make for a long career.

Hopefully he can come back but the similarites with David Walker get clearer.

Come on Walker for all his faults was not struggling life and death in his first 3 fights! Webb is going nowhere fast.

by THEBUTCH
Yeah, Walker was a much better amateur than Webb. Walker's only lost to guys at the top of their game in the pros as well.

More often than not, BBN have someone ringside. In this case, yours truly:
