Elmersalsa this is one of the best hypothetical matchups anyone has come up with since I've been on this forum. I'm going to have to give some serious thought to this one. I can't picture a prime Fenech beating a prime Gomez, or vice versa.

Ain't this one a tough call, Seamus?
I got to see more videos of these brilliant fighters TOO. I have seen more of Gomez than Fenech. Fenech REALLY convinced me when he CLEARLY beat Azumah Nelson, another great fighter, BUT GOT ROBBED BIG TIME.
Gomez was beating Nelson to the punch but got tired and KOd. And that was not the same Gomez nor Fenech I believe when they fought Nelson.

Tough, tough match, but I would have to go with Gomez as he was the total package...Fenech is very close, but it seemed like Gomez didn't just do a couple of things well and then was average at other intangibles, he did everything great...just a very well rounded boxer, but the bout would probably resemble the Gomez-Pintor fight.

Gomez probably more likely to win it at 122 - after all, the division was MADE for him! he was a drained bantam wasn't he? everything came together for him at 122, speed, power, skill - his annihilation of Zarate was really something.
Not seen much of Fenech at 122. Probably cos he didn't stay there long. he was pretty great vs Payakaroon.
Gomez to me was overrated above 122. he became a bit of an arm puncher, especially vs laporte. whereas Fenech could step up. he was such a ballsy fighter, going 15 rds in his 2nd year as a pro (vs coffee), vaulting the weight classes and for my money, getting stronger, the Nelson I fight being maybe his finest hour. So good at clsoing the distance, cutting the ring off. I don't think Gomez can keep him off at 126 or 130

No doubt about it...Fenech was a hell of a fighter...he should have had titles in four divisions had the first Nelson bout not been called a draw.

Great matchup... I'd go for Gomez at 122... he had just the edge in speed and boxing skills and I see him outpointing Fenech in a fight which would be simular to the Gomez vs Pintor fight. At 126 I'd favour Fenech... but that match up would be slightly unfair as Gomez was slipping by the time he went up to 126... at both their primes Wilfredo has the edge for me...

Absolute great match-up - One the best "what if's" that could be made -
As others have already stated - Big questions. Could Gomez deal with Fenech's non-stop constant attack / pressure?
Could Fenech handle Gomez's power?
My take is.....Gomez (even with being a good boxer outside of his power) I don't see him winning a Dec - I think if Fenech was able to take his power...he'd close the distance enough and make the fight be fought in a phone booth....In this type of fight Fenech wins a hard fought Dec...or TKO's Gomez late -
If Gomez can keep the right distance and land big shots early....perhaps he stops Fenech via TKO or cuts?
Definitely one of those all time great match-up's -
At 126 (FW) I think Fenech wins via Dec or TKO most likely - At 122 it is more of a toss up....with Gomez likely being the favorite going in -

I've thought about this one a few times. At first I thought Fenech by decision or late TKO, but after thinking it over I believe Gomez would land a left hook that'd hurt Fenech. I think Gomez would stop Fenech now, but it's still a good match up that could go either way. I would favor Gomez though.
