Primo Carnera vs. Nicolay Valuev

Who wins this one?

Actually very similar fighters. Both had pretty good stamina for their size, although Carnera has the edge there. Equal handspeed, Valuev a slight edge in power and a better jab. Carnera a better uppercut and inside fighter.
One thing is for sure. It would be an UGLY fight to watch

Anyone picking Carnera is off their rocker...
While Valuev sucks, he's too much for Carnera. Carnera's only real advantage was his size, and he would be DWARFED by Valuev.

Totally agree, Both are very limited fighters but Valuevs size would be the diffrence.

Although several of his fights were rigged, Carnera, by a huge amount, fought the better opposition!
He and Valuev were very similar fighters, with very similar skills, very similar punching power, very similar strength and a very similar style, but Carnera had way, way more experience against way, way better opposition!
I'd probably pick Carnera to win a very, very boring jab-fest based on the fact that he faced a lot of top fighters as compared to Valuev's steady diet of grade C opponents.
Whether they were rigged, or not, Carnera still gained a huge amount of experience against the best heavyweights of the late 20s and 30s, which, in my opinion, would certainly off-set the size difference! Carnera was a huge man and though Valuev is gigantic, he would not dwarf Carnera.

Putting an in-shape prime Tua from '96-'97 back in a time machine could have disasterous results for undersized heavyweights who don't have the benefits of today's supplements and weight training machines.
I think Tua runs through all those guys with the exception of Johnson, Baer and Dempsey.. Johnson and Baer because they would come close to a prime Tua in weight and have enough skill to win. Not necessarily saying they would beat Tua.. but I'd give Johnson a fairly good edge.. and Baer a pretty close fight.
The Dempsey fight I'm undecided on. If Tua doesn't catch him early.. I'd say he loses.
Are these 12 or 15 rounders though?

Jack Sharkey at his best would box Tua's ears off . . .same with Schmeling.
under-sized? You did watch the Chris Byrd fight, didn't you?
If Dempsey could survive Firpo's best bombs and outslug him, he could do the same with Tua, who was more skilled than Firpo but not bigger (if Tua had really been in shape he would've been 215-220 like he was early in his career) Dempsey was much faster and a much more skilled inside fighter than Tua, who could get awfully lethargic mid-fight. I'd actually say Jack could stop Tua late with the body attack.
