Does anyone know of where I can get a fair price flight to Los Angeles in mid July? I could also go to Vegas and drive from there but LA would be better.

I've been checking the likes of Virgin, BA etc and the best prices are around £700 return.

Will hopefully see some boxing or UFC while out there.

Go with STA travel, even without a student card (which you can easily get with a fake letter from the Deanery of whichever univeristy you care to fake), they are very cheap, I flew in 2004 to LA (may) for 290 + tax.

Mate of mine went in America Airlines site last week and got £350 return (from Manchester via Chicago)g oing 25/7 and back 21/8 which is a great price for that time of year

I flew direct with Virgin, and had a whole row of seats to myself too!

Had a bit of luck like that once before.

I was going to NY with the missus from Manchester and they were looking for people to fly from London instead and also offered them £300 each in Continental Airline vouchers.

Flew from London later in the day and only 30 punters on the flight. £600 richer in travel vouchers which I used to pay for De La Hoya-Trinidad.

Had a look on STA and they seem quite good for late deals on flights. There don't seem to be many bargains about but thats not really surprising for this time of year.

Short notice flights to LA/San Fran can be had for around £380, and its a similar price if you leave it until September.

STA are great, find out where your nearest branch is, they sell you a student card for 7 quid, they aren't really that arsed about whether or not you actually are a student, so long as you can give them something which says you are. I brought mind on a sheet of plain paper, with a bogus letter from the deanery at Oxford University, and it said I was studying my PH.D in English Literature.

Even without the student discount, the prices are fantastic, but the added bonus is that you can change your tickets whilst abroad for about 25 quid. You change the date of your return flight by up to a year at any time, and can change it as many times as you like if you decide to stay somewhere longer. They've got branches in most major US cities, so you can just drop in and make arrangements there.

380 is bloody good for this time of year.

I flew to Fort Worth in May...cheapest flights I found were with American Airlines. They're very basic mind....no TVs built into the backs of seats and no free booze. I used http://www.lastminute.com to buy my ticket.

I suspect I didn't get the best deal though (I bought the ticket in March), but then I've never known when the best time to buy is.

One thing though - many airlines seem to let you reserve your seat when you buy a ticket, which obviously gives you a bigger chance of getting the emergency exit seat etc. Usually you have to then go the airline company's website to do this (although I suppose a travel agent, eg STA, could do this for you).
