Did i see right last night that Sky are showing both the Cotto and hopkins fights sunday morning?

Yes they are, and I agree SKY should be congratulated.

Compared to all the hoopla surrounding the ITV come back, what are we getting? Exclusive sports network cards with the majority of fight cards being headlined by a novice.

Both LIVE too? Sky Sports - greatest Boxing channel period? May have something to do with influences of fellow Boxrec posters emails

SKY are delivering big time at the moment, its been the best couple of weeks ever.

We must keep on requesting the big US fights

Good effort by Sky this weekend then: in the US it's showtime and HBO going head to head with separate cards: Cotto fight v Tarver/Hop.

Whereas Sky are going to screen both cards here in the early hours, switching between the two. I'd guess both main events will be on roughly the same time, so maybe one gets shown on delay.

Though I seriously doubt the Hop fight is going to set many pulses racing -one for the VCR I think.

Interesting to see Glyn Lynch in Box Monthly comments on the much improved Sky boxing schedule, saying it's down to a recent internet message board campaign.

They should re-title Boxing Monthly Graham Houston monthly.

He is a prolific writer Bennie and BM is a cracking product in my opinion. I always buy it (I am not so hooked on the over priced BN these days though, it must be said..) Too expensive and too little exclusive or ground breaking content.

On the topic of Sky, fair play to them. They didnt have to double up with the two big fights this wkend, but I am sure glad they did!

what is a joke is the cover price of Boxing News. It overcharges without delivering great content anymore. OK, it still makes it to 99% of UK shows which is great but elsewhere it is failing.

Years ago it was unmissable. These days I can take it or leave it.

boxing news has gone way down hill. I much perfered the bigger size, the reports now are shit to be honest. I find myself disagreeing with what they say half the time, the websites reports i think are better. the reports and previews seem really brief now days.

How does a thread about Skys great boxing coverage descend into a heated debate on Boxing magazines?

I don't like it either. too big & slick. little personality to it. i used to like it in the mid-late 90s, now i just think it's forgettable

Boxing News was the best mag ever, when it was run by Mullan. Even though he could get bleary eyed over certain fighters (like the Finnegan bros), it was a quality paper

we will have to agree to disagree on that one Bennie, I still enjoy reading it. It doesnt give a great deal of space to fight reports of british fights but its articles are still first class.

what are your thoughts on the cover price of BN? Is it fair? I honestly think its too high and would like to see it come down.

The Mullan era was certainly when it was at its best.

I'm only a humble contributor to BN (thankfully). I pay £17.99 a month to scroll a load of shite on the internet.

Without a doubt. At that time, BN carried the writing of three of the best boxing writers in the world: The great Harry Mullan, Tim Mo and Graham Houston. Untouchable

I agree. BM is terrible and has been for a few years. It was a really good magazine when it launched and for a few years but now the writing's terrible.....I don't think Graham Houston is too bad, but Ant Evans, Glen Evans and Bunce's column are crap.

Boxing News is much, much better. The writing is not perfect, but it is still the preier magazine.

Floyd Mayweather isn't the be all and end all in boxing , ya we should have gotten that fight but in the end it wasn't a great fight and the only real shame they didn't show that card was because the Arce and Diaz fights were great .

Well if Sky doesnt deliver the fights, if anyone can convert, I'd love some european fights in exchange for US fights. You'd just have to play NTSC format. PM me if anyone has a coonverter and needs any fights for trade.
