Khan by KO.

Bit of a stepdown since he stepped up in his last fight.

Yes, big step down. Another Super Featherweight.

Although to be fair, I think it will be hard to find a step up from Komjathi at the moment without it being a step to far. I was quite surprised that a seasoned campaigner like Komjathi accepted an 8 rounder.

Cant say im surprised  he didnt impress much at his last fight. so frank wont risk him getting ko.

Sorry, this is total lethargy not pasting in Max's link, but are we talking Colin Bain here? It was mentioned in either Boxing News or a Sunday paper I think I saw it.

I watched him against Ricky Burns last year and to be honest didn't look great. Certainly no punching threat, and he got knocked down by Burns himself in the 1st round or something too, so on that basis I can't exactly recommend his chin either.

The guy hit the canvas vs Burns, a guy not at strong as Khan, and Bain has 0 KO's and isn't a better boxer than Khan....waste of a fight. WInning this accomplishes nothing.

he is 19 years of age. the best thing for him is regular fights with a steadily increasing competition. And rounds, this guy wasnt knocked out by the talented burns. I say this is a good fight for khan, and long as he keeps fighting every 6 weeks it will show. I see him being big

I understand he's 19, but you don't want to roll back unless you see a big issue. Khan wasn't SPECTACULAR last time out, but this is a pretty big step down, and a pointless fight. He won't learn anything from this fight, and that's what should be the main focus. Get him in where he'll need to use his skills, and get him in with a guy who he hasn't seen someone like them yet. He's fighting a guy who poses no threat, and will only bring Khan 6 rounds. If the guy gets on his bike after early struggles, Khan doesn't gain anything.

the thing is I don't think this guy is going to give him rounds .
He was dropped twice by Burns , now Burns can punch(despite what his record suggests) but he has only been sitting down on his shots in his last two fights . So someone who has dropped by him before then gives me the impression of being a bit chinny . He's also a division lighter than Kahn .
I can't see Bain haven't anything new for Kahn and he isn't the most skilled fighter by the look of his record and with no Ko's .
I predict a Kahn stoppage in 2 rounds .

im not going to see khan until he fights someone decent. :D

TO me this fight doesn't make sence. If we assume that he is trying to learn stuff about the proffesional ranks therefore the fights he takes should have fighters in different aspects of the sport. This guy has few more fights than Kahn at what is a lower levle what is it likely for him to be able to teach kahn or is it simply record padding.

This is bullshit, Stop defending the guy he may be 19 but he won a bloody silver medal against good fighters. The guys he beat in the amatures are far better than any pro he has faced to date. Fenech fought for a world title after 7 fights and he didn't have a silver medal as an amature, Khan is ready to fight other semi contenders and at least top 50 fighters. He should be fighting for a title within 12-18 months and fighting guys like his next opponnet is not doing anything for his career.

Frank Warrén is doing it his way, we shouldnt expect anything different. Why break a process that he and his boxers have done very well from previously.

Khan is a big name in British sport at the moment, but the risk is there for all to see - The public will only take a Fleecing for so long.

Talking of Ricky Burns, he took on Graham Earl in his tenth fight and won. I wonder who Khan...the 'best' prospect in Britian will be fighting in his tength fight...

Age isn't a factor in my opinion - Khan and his team where happy to go professional, and SN where equally happy to sign him up, so personally I dont want to hear any excuses about his age.

Khan looked far from the finished article last time.

This apparent step down in competition could be seen as an opportunity for him to impliment some of the stylistic changes he has hopefully been drilling in the gym, without the threat of being caught by a decent foe.

Khan is Britains best prospect in terms of talent for some time, the caution is understandable.

Stick Khan in with either:

Gary Reid : Wolverhampton - 12-15-1 (7)
- Look past the record, because Reid is a very good fighter, moreover he is a fantastic bodypuncher, who will test Khan to the body. He is on a role as of late, winning his last 3 fights - 2 inside - the later two against Kevin Mcintyre and Leo'O'Reilly, both quality fighters. 'The Bodysnatcher's' best win, came, when he went up to Darlington and faced the 23-0-1 Oscar Hall, and destroyed him with bodyshots in two-rounds.
- His frailty is his chin, stopped 8 times, but in order to get to his chin, you will find yourself in range of his body-attacks.
- Has lost to quality, Mutley, Martin Watson, Ted Bami, Bradley Pryce, etc.

Martin Gethin: Walsall - 6-0 (2)
- Fought Baz Carey on the undercard of Mutley-Anderson, the brother of Khan opponent Steve. This brother is far the superior boxer, and can hit a bit. Martin floored Carey twice last time out - something Khan couldnt do. Decent skills and a sold chin. Test for Khan.

Tom,

maybe there was a chance ol' stumpy Gary might have got the call up pre-O'Reilly, but after the demolition job he did there I doubt his phone will be ringing too soon!

Martin is a good call - Khan has already feasted on his older, lighter, less talented brother; lets now see how he gets on against the best of the walsall lads!

Gary Reid is a good call, he is a good body puncher and is on a decent streak of late, was supposedly unlucky to be thrown out against Jason Cook for low blows. I think he could give Khan a reasonble test but if Khan lands flush it could all be over quite soon.

Gary Reid would be a good fight, maybe a little early for Khan - but I think Khan would win for sure if it was an eight rounder.... Not sure Reid, who is now in the domestic title mix, will want to fight Khan in a 8 rounder.

Here is some other suggestions (although in a similar bracket to Reid)

Dean Hickman

Glenn McLarron (although his days as a Light Welter appear to have gone)

Kevin McIntyre

Chris Barnett (apparently making a comeback)

Brett James (might be too big)

Ceri Hall - quite decent.
Dean Hickman
Good call Stu.

Hickman was caught cold by Barry Morrison, plain and simple. But he is a good fighter, who holds a win over Gary Reid on points in a Midland Area title fight.

I was at the fight, didnt think Dean deserved the nod, but it was close, and Dean took some good bodyshots. Although i had a giant in front of me at Dudley Town hall that night! Good fight nethertheless, a rematch would be nice sometime this year.

I think that Martin Gethin might be a 'goer' at some time, i can see a nice "Revenge of the brother" angle. Martin is a lot, lot better than Steve. Decent skills and a bit of power, he would make it very uncomfortable for young Khan.

Can't compare Fenech to Khan though.

Dean Hickman is certainly better then the blowout against Morrison would have you believe.

The night he beat Adnan Amar, he hit him with a left hook that had the then-undefeated fighten out for a worryingly long time.

Hickman's speed would mesh well with Amir's and I would fancy him to give boy wonder something to think about - I would like to see this match made :TU:

Why Khan is an Olmypic silver medalist and a good boxer, He should be fighting at least the top 5 brits around his weight.

What is wrong with putting him in with that wise old perennial loser Peter Buckley? Here is a man that will teach Khan more than he has learned so far without much chance of the upset. Unless of course he has retired.

Nah mate. Pete is still fighting and going for 300 fights!

I would prefer to see Khan in with someone who is going to fight back for 6-rounds.

As i said before, Gary Reid, Dean Hickman or Martin Gethin would be ideal.

Or what about Nacho Mendoza - he gave John Murray a fight, and would certainly push Khan back.

There was an interview with Nobby Nobbs a few months back, I think it was in The Independent on Sunday, and he said he'd never put Buckley in with Khan, because he didn't want to see him humiliated on prime-time TV. His words, not mine. I doubt Buckley would be humiliated, although he'd undoubtably lose.

I tend to agree with you mate I dont think Khan is good enough to humiliate Buckley but Peter would lose for sure. However in the process he just might teach the kid a few tricks.
