Tyson and Holyfield

So obviously these two fought a couple times in some pretty famous fights with Evander getting the better of Tyson. But I know there was some talk of a fight between the two in the early 90s around the time that Tyson was going to fight Buster Douglas.

I was thinking that was the case anyway. I saw that in a documentary about the Tyson Douglas fight that I just saw a day or two ago. I don't know if it would have taken place after the fight with Douglas or even instead of it cause this made it sound like Tyson took the Douglas fight cause him and Holyfield couldn't agree on a fight.

So I was wondering what everyone thought that fight would have been like. If Tyson and Holyfield met around that time in 1990. Who comes out on top in this one?

Tyson for me.

He was already looking shot when he fought Holyfield

Prison time and courtcases f****d him up, not to mention all the drugs the guy was on.

Douglas fought the fight of his life to beat Tyson but the cracks were already showing with regards to Mike's personel problems.

Holyfield was in his absolute HW pomp in 1990.

He would have beaten Tyson without too much fuss in 1990.

Tyson was arrogant & ill disciplined at this time. He believed all the hype that was written about him.

Holyfield had way too much heart for Iron Mike.

Holyfield by late TKO for me.

A fight date was scheduled for Nov. 8, 1991 between Tyson-Holyfield. The date was cancelled as Mike injured his ribs during training.

However, had the fight gone ahead, I believe Mike would have beaten Evander by TKO. When Tyson-Holyfield did eventually happen in 1996, Evander had a better boxing brain, was heavier and was not drawn into a slugfest as much as his younger days.

Around 1990/1991, Holyfield was more inclined to fight, rather than box. That would have been his undoing against Tyson, had they fought when first planned. Tyson was a much better fighter in 1991, then the fighter who fought Holyfield in 1996.

I'm pretty sure that if you do a search that there is at least one of these debates in the archives.

An indication might be their performances against common opponent Alex Stewart

Personally, I pick Tyson by KO in 3.

Do you remember the 2 fights that Tyson had with Donavan Ruddock in 1991? He was terrible in those two fights.

No head movement, no combinations & just a generally all round sloppy performance.

Holyfield was in his HW prime from about 1990 - 1992, he would have taken Tyson to the cleaners had they fought in 1991.
