How about this one? Both were approximately the same size, 6’ and 200 lbs and both fought the best HWs of their respective eras. Sharkey probably had better head movement and defense, Quarry punched a little harder, and I think he had a slightly better chin.

I see this as a very competitive fight, maybe not the most exciting, but I’d go with Quarry by close UD.

Quarry can't be paid to take a dive in fact he decks the person who approaches him on the subject, so in order to insure proper betting results Sharkey agrees to the loss. Good thing because even if he didn't, Jerry would get the best of him in an honest matchup.

If this is prime Sharkey (around 1929) plus prime Sharkey keeping his cool I'd go with Sharkey. He was in fact a very talented fighter.

Interesting matchup. Quarry at his best was a counter-puncher par excellent who killed your body and forced you to make mistakes. Sharkey at his best was also an excellent counter-puncher with a long snapping jab, good head movement, and good combination punching.

I really don't know who wins this. Edge to Sharkey by decision, as Quarry had a hard time with slick jabbers (Machen, Ali) and Sharkey knew every trick in the book.

Sharkey's too much of a loose cannon though I agree he was talented. His heart/determination were at best questionable. Quarry is no slouch and it's no shame to be beaten by Jerry. A guy who either gets beat or agrees to take it easy on Carnera is not a guy who could survive the focus/determination and skills of a guy who produced such good results during Quarry's time in heavyweight history. IMHO.

Sharkey's best shot is hoping that he can be slick enough to pull out a decision...but I find that a shade of a stretch.
