I saw Billy Smith give a fairly decent account vs Ceri Hall yesterday and couldn't quite believe when I saw his record of 3-38. Sure he lost every round, but was an elusive target and Hall was getting frustrated in there. He slipped shots very well, had good balance and was fairly ambitious.

It certainly wasn't the performance of a guy who has only won 3 times.


Anyone know a bit about him, he seemed far more skilled than most of the journeymen you see on the Sky shows, an indeed I thought both Smith and Hall were alot better than Henry Jones who won on the bill.

If you fight prospects in every fight I guess you end up with a record like this.

Very true E, but very surprised he has lost to the likes of Jason Nesbitt aswell.

Definately a whole lot better than his record suggests. Although 2 of his 3 wins have come in 2006 so perhaps he was a late developer and would now take Nesbitt?

Stu, billy smith is tougher, harder than most top fighters in britain, will fight anyone. Sole purpose is too here the final bell and box next week. Has won more than three fights, but never gets the decision, only if its clear cut. Henry jones had an oppenent who came to win, jones is offen on the road himself so a certain amount of caution is needed against unknown boxers. Gammer could of fought in cardiff but would have to fight tougher opposition there. Scott i feel is the best heavy in his scooling but lack of size and waywardness will see that hes reached his level. Hope im wrong.

Nesbitt should have won a lot more than he has two. I've seen him take the foot off the gas so many times. Too fond of getting work!

Both the Smith brothers - Ernie and Billy - are better than their records would suggest. But they know the score.

Billy has been on the end of some 'stinkers' since he returned, although, he got a good win over Michael Graydon a few weeks back, that was a quality win.

Ernie should have got the nod over Terry Adams at the ICC in Birmingham a few weeks back, he fought well, and Terry Adams is a decent fighter, but Ernie fought as well as i have seen him.

And i've seen a fair few of Ernie's 100+ fights!

My brother boxed Ernie in December 04, Ernie is a really tough fighter, also a very friendly guy.
My brother broke both his hands on Ernie's solid head, he said it was like hitting a brick wall

I'm sure Luke wasn't the first and won't be the last to hurt his hands on Ernie's head.

Billy losing to Meemea in Peterborough in December 2005 was one of the worst decisions I have seen in a long while.

Both of the twins are tough as old boots but like previous posters have said they earn a lot more being journeymen!
