I attended a book signing and panel discussion here in Chicago yesterday for the new book about Barney Ross. It was held at a bookstore in Ross'old neighborhood around Maxwell Street which was once a Jewish Ghetto and is now completely gentrified. It was interesting in that his life was fascinating. The book looks to be good . The guys on the panel were the author who's name escapes me at the moment, Sean Curtin boxing ref and author/historian, A few other experts , and Bert Sugar. I met and talked with Sugar for a bit . He was a pretty gracious guy who hung around for quite awhile afterwards signing books. He will literaly talk boxing four hours on end. Ross was a three division champ and a war hero. Recieved the Silver Star for his valor at Guadalcanal.There is much more to the story of his life Ill fill folks in on the book when Im finished... It has about 200 pages so it will probably take me a year or so.

I picked it up myself about a month ago. I to have not got around to reading it yet, but it looks very good.

Maybe we can compare notes once we have both read it.

Yes thats it. I talked with the author for some time after the signing.He was a very interesting guy himself. He became very friendly with the surviving members of the Ross family. They were at the event as well.
We will compare notes Ko. Im going to start it today.

Just finished reading Century's book, and while it was interesting, I'm usually a little disappointed with fighters bios for typically giving minimal coverage to actual fights. Not a single mention of Packey McFarland who worked with Ross when he was a young amateur, but there are a couple of noticeable mistakes like Johnny Cowlan's gym, and Washington Park Race Track in Cicero. Still, not a bad book.
