BOXER Amir Khan has been charged with dangerous driving after a man was hit by his car — and could face jail if found guilty.

The teen sensation was on bail last night following a court appearance just six weeks after fellow fighter Prince Naseem Hamed was caged on a similar charge.

Cops launched a probe into the rush-hour collision after a man aged 40 was taken to hospital with a broken leg. The incident happened near the Olympic star’s home in Bolton, Lancs, three months ago.

Lightweight Khan, 19, who turned pro after winning silver at the 2004 Games in Athens, was said to have been at the wheel of his £60,000 BMW 6 Series convertible.

Police charged him with dangerous driving at the weekend — and he appeared in court at Bolton on Monday. Magistrates bailed him until a later date.

Fellow boxer Hamed, 32, got 15 months in May over a 90mph head-on crash which left the other driver crippled.

The Sun told how the ex-world featherweight champion — said to be worth £70million — later landed a cushy job in the gym at Moorland Open Prison near Doncaster, South Yorks.

The judge at his trial told the boxer he would have jailed him for the maximum two years had it not been for him pleading guilty to dangerous driving. At the time, Khan told The Sun of his shock at the sentence, saying: “Naz goes to show that even if you are a star you still get treated the same way.

“You are not different to anyone else. He was in a serious accident and now he has paid the price.”

Last night police confirmed: “Amir Khan has been charged with dangerous driving in relation to an incident in which a car was in collision with a pedestrian.

What is it with the Muslims who preach to us about drinking etc but have no problem tearing around in their cars and endangering people's lives.

Never heard Amir Khan preach about drinking, or do you know of more Muslims outside of Khan and Hamed who have recently hurt someone speeding?

Amir is obviously very, very wealthy. He's pro-record is not even into double figures yet, and yet has already gained riches. Obviously, he should no way have a car like a BMW M6 having just recently passed his test.

I doubt he will receive a prison term, even if Naseem Hamed was recently handed one.

Fair play to the kid on earning some decent money,but it will only hurt his career in the long run.....

Not easy to put the hours in that are needed to become the best,when you are already driving 60 grand motors and that.
The kid is already a star,and to be honest I don't think many will disagree with me when I say that after his last post fight interview,there was a touch of arrogance about him.

Precisely, I fail to see what Khan's religion has to do with it. I don't recall him ever referring overtly to Islam in any interview, so it's a purely private matter.

Why don't they limit what cars you can drive in your 1st year, rather like they do with motorbikes? You don't pass your motorbike proficiency test and then go and ride a 1500cc BMW bike, so how come drivers who just passed their test can drive a supercar which does 180+ mph? Lunacy.

Told ya he's contradicted what he said about Naz being arragont.

The care is not a BMW M6 it's actually a BMW 630i Convertible.

No company in the world will insure an under 25 year old for an M6, trust me.

This is just a normal accident which is being blown out of proportion because it's a famous name. I remember this incident appearing in the paper and I'm sure it stated Khan was under the speed limit, throwing out the opinion he was driving like a young loon or rich and fat retired boxer.

Remember he actually got out of the car straight away to check on the injured man, and was very concerned about him.

What did Naz do when he caused injuries far worse than Khan did, RAN!

Putting Khan in the same group as Naz for this incident just because he is Muslim is way out of line.

Kahn seems like a good kid, he just shouldn't have been in that car. He has got a lot of money but having money never stoped ricky hatton having heart people fight for pride not just money.

Seems like Khan is taking following in Naz's footsteps a little too far.... seriously though it is a very bad idea to let Khan have such a powerful car with his little experience... what if he had killed someone or himself?... boxing is littered with simular stories... if I was Khans manager I'd have steered him well away from driving cars like this... surely he can afford a personal driver for christsake!....

having a M6 doesnt mean you are rich. Anyone can go and get one on the dtrap these days.

Most people I see with these new convertibles or 4x4's have relativeley low paid jobs and live in a terraced house or maisonette. They borrow against their homes or pay extortionate rates to have an asset of £40,000 which will be worth £20,000 in two years time.

Not a brain among them.

Their £500 pcm repayments on the car could get them a £90,000 buy to let mortgage, or almost 300,000 shares in Woolworths which look particularly good value at the moment.

Hate to see it...this kid could be the future of British boxing!!

However, people who live in said council estates, often do not have the background which allows them to believe that they could get a mortgage on a property, or the knowledge of finances to make those informed decisions. I seem to recall you are not from an affluent background, much like myself, but we both had a university education and moved in circles which are not directly related to our original environment. The apple does sometimes fall further from the tree.

It's not to do so much with where you are born, but how you are brought up. Sad to say, but if you have thick ignorant parents, (and that is not something confined by any means to council estates), then there is a greater chance that you too will grow up thick and ignorant.

Poverty and desolate surroundings have a way of stifling the reach of young people. Thus, they look to the instant gratification of designer labels, cheap bling jewellery, drug money, stupid rotating rims on their cars wheels etc. Which is easier, making a 10 year plan to buy a property, or buying a snide Ralph Lauren from the market?

I was having an argument with this daily mail reading twat in my office who is a staunch and idiotic tory, always banging on about immigration etc, Indian call centres, blah blah blah. I tried to point out to her that the tories and the idea of a free market economy is what led directly to the call centre phenomenon, the freedom of companies to employ labour around the world. All these young hoodlums out robbing and selling crack are just living the capatalist dream, unfettered by any moral obligation to anyone but themselves and those closest to them.

In essence this get rich or die tryin' generation is a direct descendent of the thatcher era yuppie. The idea that the pursuit of wealth, it's trappings and the damnation of any idea of a common weal and the good of the community is the creation of those evil bastards who ushered in the era of global capitalism as the sole god in our country.

Yeah I've got mixed feelings about smacking kids. Personally, I think that it should be avoidable if people are taught how to psychologically deal with their kids, but there aren't classes like that available as far as I am aware.

That being the case, should people be prosecuted for giving their kid a whack. I think not, unless there is too much force being used. Slapping your kids about isn't good practice, but a little chastisement shouldn't land you in court. Laws should rightly be in place to protect children from abusive parents, but I think that was already the case. I think in practice the courts will decide when they think someone has gone too far and will not prosecute people for minor offences, but social services can however be heavy handed, and we could see families being split up by over zealous case workers.

Back to Khan, he seems pretty level headed thus far, but it's easy for someone as young and with so much happening to get caught up in it all and lose his desire.

There are of course fighters for whom money isn't everything, they are ultimately into the glory, the fame, and the adultation. Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar DeLaHoya for instance both made a fortune pretty early in their careers, but chose to fight on and take on the biggest challenges available. As you say the individual has to be taken into account, but we don't really know yet with Khan.

I agree with your point James, but I didnt go to university. I did grow up on a council estate and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though I was lucky enough to work in businesses where I got a good commercial education.

The Daily moan must be the most paranoid and depressing paper in the uk.
