If you could have two fighters from any era both in their primes and match them together what two fighters would you most like to see fight each other?

Good question.
Maybe Jose Napoles versus Kid Gavilan at welterweight. Or Emile Griffith versus Thomas Hearns. Not sure.

Tyson, Dempsey, Fraizer and Marciano. <--any matchup featuring two of these guys would be great!
Joe Louis vs Muhammed Ali
Archie Moore vs Roy Jones Jr. at 175 or HW
Marvin Hagler vs Carlos Monzon
Pernell Whitaker vs Floyd Mayweather Jr at 135.
Henry Armstrong vs Ray Robinson
George Foreman vs Sonny Liston
Sandy Saddler vs Manny Pacquaio at 126

Moore-Jones.....I would love for Roy to recieve such an additional whuppin....
Monzon-Hagler I would love for people to see just what Hagler would be able to accomplish against this legend. If the man struggles with Leonard, or Monroe he aint goin anywhere against Carlos. I know that's a lot for people to fathom since we are in "Hagler Haven" here but you can take it to the bank, cash it, and buy yourself a vacation with it.
Joe Jeanette/Jack Dempsey.....Surprise Surprise.. is my guess but if not Joe would give one great account of himself.
Tarver/Foster.....Just to settle that excitable fella down a bit
what do you think his excuse would be?
Mugabi/Briscoe How'd they miss one another anyway?
Aaron Pryor/ vs Tszyu or Chavez.....just to deflate this whole Aaron Pryor cult Mythology thing once and for all.

....re: the robinson/henry armstrong......they did meet but armstrong was past his his prime...so i'm assuming the choice was for peak henry.

In my living memory...
I would have liked to have seen quick rematches in the early 1980s between Leonard-Duran (III) and Leonard Hearns (II). I would also have liked to have seen Leonard-Halger (II)
I would like to have seen McCallum get his chance with Leonard, Hagler and Hearns too.
Sanchez - Nelson II
Sanchez - Pedroza
Hagler-Hopkins-Monzon could all fight one another too...
From history
Johnson - Foreman
Dempsey - Ali
Charles - Jones
Langford - Foster
Greb versus anyone
Duran - Gans
Duran - Whittaker

Most interesting fight of all time?
Well, wat about....
Jack Dempsey VERSUS Rocky Marciano
Jack Dempsey = 6 foot 1 inch... 13 stone 8 lbs. Reach is 77 inches.
Rocky Marciano = 5 foot 11 icnhes... 13 stone 6 lbs. Reach is 67 inches.
THIS WOULD MAKE FOR A FANTASTIC FIGHT!!!
ALSO:::
Sugar Ray Robinson VERSUS Sugar Ray Leonard
(Robinson's conditioning for the George Costner fight, 14th Feb 1945)
6 foot dead... 10 stone 7 lbs. Reach is 72.5 inches.
(Leonard's conditioning for the Bobby Hayman fight. 13th April 1978)
5 foot 10 inches... 10 stone 7 lbs. Reach is 74 inches.
THIS WOULD THE FIGHT I WOULD JUST LOVE TO SEE!!!

For me it's the 1938 Louis vs. the 1965 Ali, no question.
I'd also like to see how Jack Dempsey or Rocky Marciano would do against great heavyweights of other eras. Dempsey-Schmeling or Marciano-Liston for starters.
Gene Tunney vs. Ezzard Charles for the undisputed all-time light-heavyweight crown.
Harry Greb or Sam Langford vs. the best modern middle/light-heavyweights.
Finally, Hagler-Hopkins would make me very curious.

Terence wrote:'Buzz, to be fair I think putting a faded Benny in with a streaking Mugabi would have been a dangerous move. You never know with boxing but Bennie was on the outs and Mugabi on the up, it may have been a harsh fight for Bennie, who was an excellent fighter and was a true fighter. A fan recently classed him a C-level fighter due to the fact he got iced in a single round and lost more than a few fights, that made me depressed and ashamed.
Aaron Pryor - Henry Armstrong : Lots of action and pace. Two great chins as well, over fifteen rounds and watch the compubox machine melt.
.
Pryor would melt well before the compubox machine.....Not sure Henry would need much more than 4 rounds in that dance.
Yep in real time I think Mugabi may have the edge but peak for peak would be a bit of a war.
I never thought I was going to live to see the day that Pryor and Armstrong's name were mentioned in the same sentence..........but it has come to pass.....and sadly I must learn to live with it somehow.

At Wrigley Field when an opposing team hits a homerun the fans in the bleachers throw the ball back onto the field.
Might not be a bad idea to implement that plan at this fight.

I agree Terence that a Prior v Armstrong fight would make great viewing whilst it lasted but I would be clear that the hawk would be the one to wilt first. Armstrong was a machine in the footage i've seen of him and has too much of everything for Prior.
Maybe similar to Sanchez Gomez in the respect that it's a great fight but from the first round you know who the winner is going to be.

I have nothing against him other than I believe I am realistic when it comes to assessing his abilities. I've been to more than a few of Aaron's fights, maybe familiarity breeds contempt but I might go so far as to say that he has been in danger of becoming the most over rated fighter on this forum. In light of the recent "Henry Armstrong could not knock him out" statements I think this nightmare of mine has just been confirmed.
Cervantes in his prime would have been too much for him. Henry Armstrong would have been booked for assault and savage battery.
And that's all I have to say about that.

..for some an armstrong/pryor fight would be a dream match...for pryor it would be a nightmare.
...damn...i keep getting out..they keep bringing me back in....but i can't resist......this would be a true fantasy match....as in reality pryor would never get into the ring against armstrong.
buzzy and i saw him in some fights at the same time.....but we didn't know it then....
that's it.....i am retired (undefeated) on posts about pryor.
