Tony 'The Tiger' Thompson won again last night, he beat Dominic Guinn by a clear decision and now gets his name in the hat when considering contenders for a shot at the titles.

I've mentioned Thompson a few times on here, and usually got laughed out of the place, but he is a decent boxer , without having the hardest punch in the world, at the moment i'd say he has better skills than Rahman, Valuev .
So apart from me , anyone else rate him now??

I did think Thompson would beat Guinn, who looked poor vs a dire Harrison, but the manner of the win (sounds like a near landslide) ws abit of a surprise.

Cannot say I have been convinced about the tiger in the past, but I'm prepared not to write him off - the state of the devision. He surely cannot be any worse than the other prospect, Calvin Brock.

A fight with Monte Barrett wouldn't be a bad fight for Thompson next.

Didn't know much about Thompson before hand..... was unbeaten though.

This the guy who won or came runenr up in Kushner's heavyweight tournament a few years ago?

Makes Harrison's loss to Guinn all the more depressing.

I think Guinn's loss confirms that Harrison can't fight sleep, let alone a world class heavy...

Thompson is one of those heavywieghts that isn't outstanding in any department, but has good all round skills, he's a bit deseptive when looking at him, as he isn't a great build , but he has a longer reach than any other heavy except Valuev.
Thompson uses this to his advantage , boxing opponents on the end of his punches, he can also mix it up on the inside. Being a southpaw adds to the differculties that his opponents face.
The one main thing lacking in him is a KO punch, i can't see him developing one this late on either.

Thompson is not a boxer that any title holder is going to be in a rush to face, for a couple of reasons , one is that he would be a bit of a nightmare to box , the other is he will not bring much box office appeal so therefore a poor payday.
I think Thompson is going to have to work his way into an eliminator soon , try and get rated No.1 and force a fight with one of the champions.
I'd pick him to win over Valuev.

Hi topper, have you seen him recently, when I saw him last he looked okay but looked half asleep and could do with a Ronnie Davies esque slap. He seems to have these big bambi like eyes and seemed to be boxing like he was on medication and sedated - nothing snappy, nothing exciting. Has he improved from this.

In some ways his performance that I saw (and I cannot remember his opponent) reminded me of Calvin Brock. Just to darn much of a passifist to be a decent boxer.

That might have been the Diaz fight, it was a decent enough win, but not exciting. Thompson reminds me in some ways of Henry Akinwade.

Didn't he lose in Kushner tournament to Maurice Harris? And he still unbeaten, for some reason i thought he had a recent loss...must be dreaming. I remember seeing him on Eurosport a while back versus obese James Gaines, he used his reach and jab well but lacked a killer instinct. The landslide win over Guinn is a good statement but as a previous poster mentioned it makes Audley Harrison's one sided loss look even worse. To think Guinn was once tipped to be the next big thing too

Is this the same Tony Thompson that fought in K1? Or am i barking up the wrong tree :)

None of the fights from the Kushner tournement appear on offical records, in the tournement Thompson drew with Jeremy Williams (he got though to next round , on punches landed), then he outpionted Derrick Jefferson , next in the final he lost on pionts to Harris.
