Sauerland can earn far more money with Valuev fighting in America, Skelton represents a very poor value proposition, where is the money going to come from to tempt the big bastard?

The talk is of world title shots etc....

But it ain't gonna happen in my opinion,the Skelton win was great for sports network,it means a 3rd match for the 2 British 'greats'......

The world title shot will never come

I really will not tune in for a third fight, Saturdays effort was woeful. Worse than the first fight which was pretty dire.

After watching Maccarinelli tonight, I say he beats either of our supposed top 2 heavyweights pretty comfortably. Seriously.

I agree, at least he's in decent shape. He'd actually do alright domestically at heavyweight he's certainly got the frame for it and has fougth at heavyweight before.

There's talk of Monte Barret being Valuev's opponent in September. Makes sense really. I can't exactly see how overly enthralled America would be watching Valuev against Skelton. Come to think of it I don't know how overly enthralled I would be watching Valuev against Skelton.

If Williams ever gets serious, then a comeback fight against Gammer would be the way to go. Gammer would probably win though now.

ok everyone is bitching that Valuev doesnt fight valuable opponents, so, given other champs are already set for a defense and that Valuev wont yet be able to unify titles, WHO according to you all is diserving a title shot at Valuev, and who would be a valuable opponent for valuev today?

Williams is never going to get serious, his weight is only going one way and thats up. How he is going to lose all this "muscle" he built to get to 20 stone 8? He certainly doesn't run anywhere.

You have a point. Take away those who are involved in eliminators or other fights and stuff - Ibragimov, Austin, Briggs, Toney, Peter, Virchis, Chagaev, Maskaev, Vidoz.

If, just for an easy example, you then look at boxrec's top 25 (or maybe a little further down too) you're left with 2 types of boxers.

1) Thompson, Minto, Dimitrenko, Chambers Witherspoon. If any of these guys were to fight Valuev, people would ridicule the fight on the basis that they havn't fought anyone decent, don't have enough experience. (And then would the handler's of these guys be willing to put their man in with Valuev anyway?)

2) Then your slightly over-the-hill or ex-champs. Williamson, Ruiz, Brewster (injured though anyway) Byrd, Mesi, McLine. And Barret. Personally I don't think Barret would be that bad in theory, although I really dislike the fact that, if this fight is made, Valuev would be fighting 2 guys who lost their last meaningful fight, and have been pretty innactive.

So whilst their perhaps isn't exactly much in the cupboard to choose from, I'd still say they could do better - Williamson perhaps, who at least has recently destroyed the overhyped Mike Mollo. It's a sad case of finding a guy who won't make you look bad, rather than finding the guy who'll give you the biggest test.

i have just heard a radio interview with jimmy mac who when questioned about a possible fight with gammer said that danny will be in the shape of his life having been training non stop since the skelton fight in a hot air balloon with his jaws wired up and only drinking the collected sweat from ernie shavers tee-shirts and will knock him out before the fifth.

Barett would make a good defense for Valuev, he TKOed Beck, and he was competitive against Rahman...he also lost a very close SD to Mesi when Mesi was at his prime...
