Beyer-Kessler is on

Great fight lined up for October , when WBC super middleweight champion Markus Beyer and WBA super middleweight king Mikkel Kessler box each other.
Bad news for Calzaghe though as that means he wouldn't get a significant fight in the supermiddle division till next year at the earliest.

Might try and go to that: has a venue been announced yet?

Looks like Calzaghe is being overtaken by Kessler. My only hope is that the two of them fight before Calzaghe retires. Sod light heavyweight, clear out the division Joe. If Kessler beat's Beyer, goes on to make a defence and then Calzaghe beat him, you could kind of say he cleared out the division

If Kessler beats Beyer then Warren and Calzaghe should make the fight immediately. That would be for the undisputed title. I can see it passing by though.

Yeah it could be that Joe will be remembered for the 1 fight against Lacy, and not fighting the other top guys whilst he was champion, Ottke, Kessler Etc.
Unless he takes a routine defense in September/October then faces the winner of Kessler v Bayer. By then Joe will be 35, and time would be running out for him.
Other option would be to jump to light heavy and face the winner of Wood v Johnson, this is the option i can see happening.

Have to say though, that Joe seems a young 34, he looked as fast as ever against Lacy, aside from the hand injury, there doesn't seem much wear and tear.

Lets be honest though a lot of his title defences have been walks in the park, no surprise for me that he still looks fresh!

Yes, also though you never see Joe look in poor shape when he is on the shelf. I know it was reported he was socialising alot after his split up... but on the whole it seems to be well documented that he is a clean living guy, who ticks over when not scheduled to fight.
Onto the fight at hand, I agree I would like to see Joe fight the WINNER (no forgone conclusion) of this fight. If he moves up now, it will actually do his reputation some harm cause it looks like he's ducked a geniune challenge.
There might even be a case (a small one) to call the winner of this fight the #1 Super Middleweight. These two were ranked #2 and #3 before Calzaghe's fight with Lacy.

Yes, there's a good argument for making Kessler #1, the only flaw is that Beyer does not look to be the same fighter of 3-4 years ago, and has seemed vulnerable for quite some time. Joe maybe just shades it, mainly due to longevity. It will be interesting to see whether Lacy bounces back and goes on to do big things in the division. If he does it enhances Calzaghe's legacy somewhat also.
Joe doesn't have many fights left, 3 at the most I reckon. Let's hope they aren't bollocks defences to pad out his record. I have severe doubts about a fight with Johnson ever happening, too much history now, and the best bet is maybe a woods win, as the two of them seem to have a genuine grudge and Clinton would love to shut Joe's Yap and vice versa. Could be a cracking domestic fight, but my worry is that Warren and ?Joe will offend Clinton with an offer that whilst realistic in reflecting his marketability as a fighter, will injure his champions pride.
In other words, Clinton will probably want more than Warren is prepared to offer him, and the fight may well never happen.

I don't know who to pick out of this match. Kessler's average even against a shot Lucas and Beyer's just plain shit and needed 12 rounds to finally catch that Colajanni.
Beyer has more championship experiance and more activity than Kessler as well since Kessler's more injury prone. Beyer will be Kessler's biggest name on his record too.
I hope the winner gets Joe because of the belts and both would be easy picking for Joe, so I hope Warren gets him the winner.

Kessler totally shut out Lucas and broke his fu_cking face up. When you say "average" I think you mean he throws lots of superb accurate jabs that break the other guy's rhythm. He did the same thing to a sharp, tricky boxer in Manny Siaca to win his world title in the first place. When Kessler feeds out that jab, he's very hard to beat. Be reasonable.
Calling Beyer shit is out of order. Danny green and Sanavia weren't shit & look what he did to them in the rematches. Colajanni ran and ran and ran, and the ref pulled him out for not fighting!

Boring fight. I think Mikkel gets a stoppage here on cuts, late in the fight.
Lets see JC-Kessler already!

Be a Calzaghe fan by all means. But calling Kessler average just to try and put Calzaghe on a pedestal is ridiculous.
Kessler will be the best guy Calzaghe has ever fought if it ever happens. If that's average what were the rest of Calzaghe's opponents then??

He won every round, no doubt about it but Lucas was shot and Kessler doesn't make me think he's anything special. Mundine was timid and still brought him to a close fight yet gets beat by Siaca.

I didn't say that because I'm a Calzaghe fanotherwise I'd have said it. He's good but not good enough to dominate and he's more inactive than Calzaghe. It's crazy that he gets creditforfighting shot fighters yet when Calzaghe did it, he was criticised alot.
He should ofjust KO'ed Lucas clean and out like Danny Green did.
He hasn't proved he's better than Lacy either except for the jab. Yet you still say Lacy is good enough to smash Beyer to bits.
Yeah and Beyer will be Kessler's best name and

How do you know Lucas was shot? He might've been inactive, but as you say so was Kessler. I know Lucas wasn't exactly in his prime, but anyhow Kessler isn't a guy to go looking for KOs; he has the virtues of poise, patience and a consistent jab. Didn't look shot to me, more like shut out and busted up by the best kept secret in boxing (aside from Lorenzo Parra). Siaca was shut out out and beaten up, too, and he was good enough to beat Mundine and Byron Mitchell (officially he lost to BM, but under dodgy circumstances!).
Lucas has fought Roy Jones, Fabrice Tiozzo (good enough to beat down Mike McCallum), Glenn Catley, Danny Green, Marcus Beyer. And he said that after Jones, Kessler was the best he fought.

Calzaghe never seems to take up the challenge first. You could say he did with Lacy but thats it. I doubt he will fight the winner, there will be a lot of talk of a 3 belt unification between Calzaghe and the winner before and after the fight, but it wont happen. He's a joke champion and i'm sick of the c*nt! Fcuk of and leave it to the guys who want it!

Kessler should win against Bayer, I'd go for him to outpoint him in a tough battle. Bayer looked a bit slower than usual in his last couple of fights, maybe that might have been to do with motivation, and boxing down to his opponents level.
Kessler hasn't been the most active lately, just one fight in 2005 and only one so far this year as well, but i've been impressed by him, he seems to have a very good chin, nice speed and the best jab in the supermiddle division. Remember he beat Mundine completly , and that was in Australia as well.
As for Kessler against Calzaghe, for me its a hard one to pick, and thats down to Kesslers Jab, if he can get that going against Joe, that would off set Joe's attacks and maybe Kessler could outpoint him.
But Joe has shown that when he's faced with the top in his division he shows what champions are made off, and susses out the opponent to win.

You have to question if Calzaghe fancies the job. He completely dismisses Kessler as a potential opponent whenever asked - not well known enough blah blah blah, yet talks of wanting unification fights at 168. Which is it to be Calzaghe?

I always find this surprsing when a boxer says that , What boxer apart from Calzaghe could the average person know? Maybe Carl Froch?
Unless you really follow boxing you wouldn't know who's good and who's bad.
Kessler v Bayer is going to sell out fast and its being held in a 42,000 seater stadium, so they are far from unknown in there respective countries, what it needs over here is the fight to be covered by ITV, get the boxers faces known to the general public, but i can't see ITV going for it.

Because he could of put up a better fight than that against the way Kessler was fighting. Plus he's probably had some wear and tear from those loses too and like James said he had a long term Illness so that would have some affect.
Best Kept secret? He's only that way becasuse he hasn't got much market value outisde of Denmark and before Beyer than what was the point of overpricing himself?
Patience and a good jab? You need more than that against Calzaghe to be competitive.

If Kessler beats Beyer then he has an UNDISPUTED title fight at 168. That will draw enough casual fans. Lets see who he fights in October.
Kessler although not being a big enough name for Calzaghe (his words) is bigger than Ashira, Veit, Salem, Mkrtchan, Pudwill, Jimenez in fact a bigger name than 90% of Calzaghe's record.....
Lets stop with the excuses, if Kessler beats Beyer there is no reason not to make the biggest fight EVER at 168.
