A Predictor League?

There is a cracking Predictor League that runs here http://www.boxingbanter.com every two months or so.

It FREE and there are prizes to be won. There are usually about 200 entrants, so it's not easy to win, and you pick up points for predicting, eg. Haye 1->4.

If you are interested in joining, you must "Click Submit to enter League" before 21:30 this Friday, because the first fight is David Haye vs Ismael Abdoul, and once the League has begun, no one else can join in.

You've got nothing to lose! :TU:

p.s... The League is 20 fights long, you'll see what fights have been listed for it if you go to the website and click on Predictor League.

What's your problem? :?

The Predictor League is FREE, it's just a bit of fun for boxing fans. I'm not asking anyone for anything.

If someone has spent the time writing a program that's a fun game for boxing fans to test their wits at, why do you feel the need to bang it down?

If that happens, you can have the website. ;)

Two threads, one over a month ago that created over 40 replies and started a boxing discussion.

And this one, that is offering a free boxing game for boxing fans.

That is a little bit over the top calling it spam.

Look forget it, if you're not interested in having a go at the Predictor League then don't bother entering it. I'm sure 90% of other people might fancy their chances at it.

I'm just a sceptic Rob and others. I just see it as a deliberate attempt to attract POSTERS away from this forum elsewhere.

Boxing Banter has a forum. They can advertise the league via the boxing news wires, no?

IF Adversity was more of a regular contrbutor to THIS forum then perhaps he could be forgiven for exercising his current right to free PR.

And another thing, why did Boxingbanter.com sneak in a camcorder to shoot Gilbert Eastman's fight with Gary Woolcombe breaking copyright rules?

Corr, you really are bundle of fun aren't you.

It was recorded by a boxing fan to show to other boxing fans. I'm sure some fight fans that don't get the opportunity to see fights live at places like the York Hall would be quite grateful for the a video like that, because it has much more of feel behind it than just watching the fight on Skysports.

I don't think you're into boxing the same way as some of us are.

Forget about it...

But it's breach of copyright. It's just not the correct code of practice. Nor is endlessly promoting your own site on someone elses.

what you did is illegal and unethical mate, it's not about fun, you are not allowed to record live fights and distribute them, no more than you are allowed to record a concert or a movie and then distribute them. If someone wants to get the feel of a live fight, then they can buy a ticket.

I was merely pointing out that you can't take movies of fights and then distribute them freely.

I wouldn't like to be the person who was asked to go along to a sports network fight and stand there videoing the whole event, I think the words out the get and fornicate followed by the fat fingers of a security guard around the throat might be forthcoming.

If you're given a press pass, it's a bit of a lib to then start taking your own home movies without asking permission. You're meant to have a permit to even take photographs, though most promoters seem to turn a blind eye to people snapping a few shots from ringside.

that aside, I've nothing against a league being advertised on here, I don't know whether this adversity person has some sort of history, which I suspect they do judging by certain people's reactions.

some fights aren't even televised. and so it can be important to document the event. Personally, I'm grateful for the amateur recordings of Chris Pyatt-Sumbu Kalambay & Shane Mosley's early fight against ? Bryant, cos where the heck else would you see them if they happened a decade or two ago?

obviously in this case it was on Sky & Sky would have better camerawork anyway, my guess is.

Pretty sure this Pyatt fight was on ITV - I remember watching it!

It is still very much illegal without prior consent... and even with prior consent with the promoter some people, like alledgely Steve Holdsworth, might claim to have the rights. I have had formal and informal consent to home recorder one or two shows - or bought copies from the promoter. But no way would I distrubute them to anyone (or even mention what they were) cause I'm very greatful for the consent and don't want to risk it in future.

Personally, I think it is a daft policy though.... Its not like a trip to the theatre or a pop gig.... Its not going an event that is not going to be repeated. Although, yes with TV fights and especially PPV of course it makes sense to stop the recording. You would think that small hall promoters would be very greatful to the possibility of distributing non tv cards - as it will create some publicitiy.

Kalumaby vs Pyatt was a TV fight, so your were very lucky there VM.

I think these guys produce dvds and sell em to the fighters and other interested parties.

Its good that the majority of fight s are recorded for prosperity. I have seen some awesome 'off TV' small hall thrillers.

From my limited experience I have found most of them have been hired by the promoter or maybe by a boxer fighting on the card. Why don't they try and distribute them to websites or sell them I find a little puzzling.

Yes I believe he does and Holdsworth has a large collection of video fights (not sure if he sells them)

However, I doubt they attend every show and I have seen a few promotions with one camera filming (big proffesional job) and found out it was hired by the promoter. I even asked the promoter could I purchase a tape (just for my own viewing) and sometimes I have had - this is not for sale... I'm think "Why". He could at least cover the cost of hiring the cameraman if he sold the tapes at a tenner a tape.
