Does anyone know what he's up to these days and if he's ever going to fight again?

He was coming back but got KO'd by a gust of wind.

I heard he combed his hair and knocked himself out.

There was talk of a new start in Canada but nothing came of it

The worst chin on a "world champ" from these shores ever surely?

Imagine what Lewis would have done to him if they'd fought when Hide was calling him out. Lewis KO1.

I've never heard ANYONE say a good word about Herbie, apparently he went a bit nuts when his brother died a few years ago and has never really been the same since.

He was one of my favourite fighters in the Screensport (correct name?) days.

Its got to be a miracle he's never been banged up with his record.

herbie was always a bundle of fun to watch with his dodgy chin and big punch though.

the york hall riot remains a career highpoint.

Have you seen the fight? Hide was just falling to the floor a lot of the time they weren't all from punches.

His best win was against Michael Bentt.

He didn't even fight a particularly decent British fighter for the vacant British title. He fought one of the worse (no disrespect) claimants to a world heavyweight title ever for his first WBO reign. Lost it in defence number 1. Then somehow got a chance to fight for vacant title (by beating on guys with losing records) vs an old junkie who looked sleepy throughout his UK stay that week.

He then defended against I would say the worst fighters to be sanctioned by a leading governing body... these made Tocker Pudwill and Kid Fire McIntyre resemble Ali. Then he lost it to Klitchsko.

Maybe overated isn't the correct word, cause he was undoubtedly talented. I would say most PROTECTED champion ever right from the begining.

I won't forget Dave Bremmer saying after Hide recovered from a KD (although not scored) to win the WBC international title that he showed some heart and a decent recovery rate - "I think he will be around for a while, he's a stayer" . The warning signs were there then as again he looked completely gone for minutes, and it wasn't even a proper punch.

Not one of Bremmer's finest moments in hindsight.

Hide was a good specimen, good natural athletuic ability, a murderous puncher. In hindsight he clearly wasn't built to take heavyweight punches. Even the ones that missed his head used to knock him over. He even admitted - prior to his Canadian non-comeback - that he bulked unnaturaly on protein shakes and wasn't a proper heavyweight. Shame he didn't realize until too late, as he would have fit in well with the UK cruisers, might have been too powerful.

If Herbie carried the same power at cruiser he would have been a monster. I still think his chin would be a problem even if he was fighting welterweights but not too many guys could have taken his shots. Bowe is widely reported as saying he hit him with the hardest shots in his career and regardless of the opposition level 34KOs from 35 wins isn't bad.

Would have loved to see a Hide v Moorer fight.

Total nutcase though and I doubt he'll ever be back in a boxing ring

Herbie has always had a tendency to vanish for lengthy periods in his career, then comeback & eventually get pasted!

This time however, he seems to have been away for the longest time & couple that with fact that he's now 35 or at least getting there, I don't hold out much hope of a successful return.

It's a shame Herbie's fight with Tommy Morrison fell through.

That would have been a cracking fight.

Too late I've heard whispers of a potential Morrison v Tyson fight.

I'd only watch that out of curiosity to see if Tyson got HIV.

They should put that 'legends' tournament on and get all these matches out of the way in one night.

remember the coverage of him beating Conroy Nelson for WBC Intercontinental belt... commentator gushes 'Oh well done Herbie, you deserved this, what a performance' as Hide dances around the ring thanking the Heavens and waving his paper title as the crowd go into hysterionics...

Imagine a prime Morrison landing a left hook on Hide? Would have decapitated him!

I always wanted to see Herbie Hide vs Jeremy Williams. They were of a simular size, both could punch and both could be KO'd. It could have produced some early fireworks.

Years ago when Roy Jones Jr first started talking about moving up to Heavyweight and taking on the likes of Holyfield, Tyson and Douglas I recall Hide throwing his name into the hat as he felt his combination of speed and power would have been too much for Jones Jr.

Can we have Lewis vs Moorer there aswell - the one fight that seemed to be readily available that never happend from the Lewis generation (I'm mean Lewis fought the rest, Bowe and Foreman didn't want to know).
