He khan go all the way

Amir Khan has been paid the highest accolade possible by his promoter allegedly, who claimed that the Bolton fighter can be the best Britain has ever had.

Warren told the Voice of Sport that the 19 year old had made huge strides in his development during his first year as a professional boxer but warned he still had a way to go before being ready to pursue the big prizes.

Khan is set to fight in September in his home town of Bolton. His opponent is yet to be confirmed, but it’s likely it will be against the only fighter to have knocked Khan down in his boxing career as an amateur.

He was decked by Craig Watson three fights before Khan turned professional. Khan got up to beat Mancunian Watson, but the shock of hitting the canvas left an indelible mark on his conscience.

It’s widely expected that Khan will win the fight, scheduled to take place at the Reebok Stadium, but Warren said it is important that the youngster, who is yet to compete in an eight round fight, grows at the right pace.

Warren said: “Provided Khan does everything expected, keeps training and stays focused, I think that he can be one of the best we have ever had. He is in front of where he should be but he’s still a way off from doing that.

“My responsibility is picking the opponents, promoting and managing him while making sure everything is done right, so if anybody is unhappy with what happens in his career the buck stops here.

“Outside the ring, he has been pulled here, there and everywhere for personal appearances, and his family and his business manager look after that. He has a good team around him and it’s all about keeping him focused on the boxing because if it’s not for the boxing then what has he got.”

Khan agreed, saying he had come to the decision that cutting off all promotional work three weeks before every fight will allow him to be in the right frame of mind when he climbs into the ring.

NO GIRLFRIEND
Another insight into his maturing state of mind came when Khan was asked if he had a girlfriend or any plans to get married. “No way,” answered Khan quickly. “I want to become world champion first before all of that’.

He happily admits that he leaves all of his monetary affairs to his family so he can get on with concentrating on boxing, claiming “he needs his family to keep his feet on the ground”.

Khan’s father believes that his son is turning into a man and a year after his last amateur fight he can see great signs of maturity.

The Olympic silver medallist said that by this time next year he wants to be a title holder, a goal Warren thinks possible.

The country expects Khan to deliver the goods and the pressure will intensify each time he fights.

Khan said: “I’ve not changed at all. I’m getting more mature all the time. The country’s expectations are my ambitions so I don’t take it on board as a pressure – it’s what I want to achieve.

“In twelve months time I want to be sitting in front of you with a belt in front of me and to be ranked a lot higher than I am now.”

Is He-Khan like He-Man?

Could be a catchy ring nickname actually...

He-Khan and the masters of the Universal Boxing Championship!

By the power of Bolton!

Can you change that to He-Khan and the Masters of the Universal world boxing union?

Its so yawn inducing

As much as I try I just can`t read all the bull-shit...its all total bollox....he ain`t faced anything yet and isn`t likely to face anything with much more than a pulse for a long long time....wake me up in about 5yrs time :-?

But then we`ll probably have his younger brother with even more hype

What is interesting is the chainge of tack from the promotion team, from looking a bit arrogant they seem to have decided to put quotes from him which are more the chilled out lad I think he is with Warren doing the "Im going to take over the world sh1t"

No, Calzaghe is the best Warren will have and has. :TU:

Calzaghe is proberbly one of warrens favorate fighters because he fits into his bussiness plan and has lots of low risk high income fights in his back yard without showing much more ambition. A sencible thing to do for warren as he doesn't have stars to through around like king does. Kahn does seem to show a bit more ambition than that but who knows at this stage.

are you saying that khan will split from warren? the only other thing i can think you might possibly mean is that you think khan cannot surpass calzaghe, which would be hard to believe!!

Aye , very good. Getting fed up with all the Khan links getting put on here. Getting tiresome. As usual Franks bumming his gums. Fair enough he's only a novice so you can't expect him to be up against anybody decent, but at least put him in with someone his own weight for christ sake. Khan believes his own hype, poor soul, he'll get found out soon enough. I don't believe he'll make it to british level never mind world champion, the first decent guy with a dig will end this farce.. Just another bummed up fighter, what do you expect form the Warren Camp, more shit than a shit shop, on planet shit.

Well, I wouldn't got that far, Khan has bags of natural talent, very athletic, serious speed and good reflexes. However, these fights could prove to be to his detriment, as they could build his confidence to levels where he thinks himself unbeatable only to get a shoeing.

It does look like they are going to really milk Khan's silver medal until the public are sick and tired of it before they put him in with a live body.

I seriously don't want to see Paul O Grady being asked about Amir Khan's prospects again on ITV, it's really sick making.

Totally agree with the Paul OGrady comment! Waste of space. I.M.O. Kindelan took a bung to hand his fight over to Khan on a plate, cause he looked nothing like the fighter who gave Khan a lesson the last time. If Amir thinks he can win a world title very soon, he lives in another world! Get him someone live, go on Warren don't be a shite bag, you've got plenty of money to last as it is. Stick him in with Muttley and watch how quickly the golden boy gets his arse handed to him on a plate. Used to like the guy but now he just annoys the shit out of me, same for Warren, knob-end.

It's more than a little ironic, after Warren poured scorn on Audley week after week after week about how poor his opponents were etc etc, and how the backlash was deserved, that it looks like he is doing exactly the same thing with Khan, albeit with a lot more promotional skill. To date the British sport watching public still seem to like Khan, but the boxing fraternity (whatever that is) seems to be beginning to tire of him already.

Audley was headlining on BBC, Khan is to all intents and purposes headlining on ITV, but with a far better supporting card usually than Audley had due to Warren having a stable to back it up.

Agree with that totally. It really irks me when someone at my local gym talks about Amir Khan as if he's the best fighter in the world! The average joe blogs believes all this cack that Warren and Khan churn out, blinded by the drivell. Warren is protecting his golden boy and will continue to do so until he's had about 25 fights, and even then he wont let him off the leash totally, just far enough so Uncle Frank can keep an eye on him. I for one will piss myself laughing when Khan gets found out.

In his 8th fight Audley harrison was having his american deubt against Shawn Robinson having already fought Mark Krence and Domanic Negus in his 6 and 7th fights who were both more live fighters than Kahn had. However having said that Kahn had his first few fights a lot quicker and also has a lot more time on his side. Im not sure what point Im making but thought Id add those points into the mix.

Khan will get chinned by the first decent light-welter with a reasonable punch. He's a mirage.......

I think Kahn has potencial but am not convinced by his training camp as he has retained some ameterish habits which could find him in trouble. Warren would do well to send him out to the states for a while where he doesn't have the respect and reputation.

f_ck that - if you lack the chin and you get caught - you will be chinned. That's simple.

I don't know if he does lack chin but he holds his chin up particularly when he unloads a few big shots.

Just a question from those more knowledgable than me in such matters

On the BBC website, it says that AK signed a £1,000,000 contract.

Is that, as in music, or my own field, publishing, done in the form of an advance ( to be earned out by fight fees and TV money ) What we call " recoupable but non returnable"

is it paid in one lump sum or in increments based on appearances and staying unbeaten?

or is it just a sweetener paid to get the fighter to join one promoter rather than another and just part and parcel of the costing of the game?

Just curious

The 'sweetener' as you call it is called a 'signing bonus' a-la Don King's attempt to secure the services or Rahman when still signed to Cedrik Cushner.

As far as I am aware, the 1000,000 is a purse guarantee for the duration of the contract, be that fights (as Audley's was for a 10 fight deal), or whatever terms are in place. It is probably a minimum purse earnings guarantee, with the fighter possibly able to negotiate other additional fees or earn more from gate receipts, TV figures etc.

This is told to you from what i've been able to glean over the years, but the truth of contracts and their intracacies are something of a mystery to even those of us who have tried to make it our business to know.

I guess the figure would be paid in increments during the fights, though there's nothing to prevent other arrangements being made by prior agreement, it's in the interests of the promoter to pay it in stages. I seem to recall there was a signing bonus from Warren in this case too. It's a bit like getting free alarm clock when you sign up for Freeman's Catalogue, though I don't think Khan got an Alarm clock, or maybe a rolex one.

So according to Warren Calgahe's performance vs Lacy is the best ever by a British fighter and Kahn will be the best Brit ever. I had no Idea I was living through the golden age of British boxing.

I know all promoters talk crap about their fighters, but some of Warren's statements show no respect to the history of the sport in this country.

Widely expected to win his next fight..? Ho ho you can say that again Frank.
They can't afford to match the boy in any risky fights for a long time yet - SN have NO world class fighters in the stable apart from Joe, who'll likely pull out more times than he fights these days.
AA maybe, but the Gomez shadow looms large.
This Khan bullsh** PR is going to run + run, until he gets that up in the air chin tested by a half decent puncher, then I get the feeling the SN house of cards comes a crashing down.
