What if: Harry Simon v Ike Quartey

Both guys were awesome specimens, Quartey the hard jabbing deceptively quick Ghanaian and Simon the Namibian volume puncher. Neither guy fulfilled thier potential though each had special moments that had scattered groups of fans wanting more. This, IMO, has turned both men into cult heroes.

Simon of course will be remembered for wearing down Winky Wright in a classic fight in South Africa. He won WBO titles at light middle and middle. Quartey made 7 defenses of a welterweight crown, destroying Vince Phillips, drawing Jose Luis Lopez, and then losing very controversially to oscar de la hoya.

both had long layoffs, Quartey taking five years off after losing to Vargas in a move up to light middle, Simon running some people over and getting jailed...

interesting matchup. both very colourful fighters. really exciting to watch. quarteyu made his name in america, simon had lots of british appearances but fought around the world. quartey was far more fine tuned, but didn't always have great workrate. simon not as good technically, but could punch non stop for 12 rounds.

So, who would have won?

Great match, both proved they could take so much punishment. I think Simon's size advantage may be telling, but Quartey was a warrior too, could wear him down. I don't like sitting on the fence so I'll go for Simon via a Decision.

What's Harry doing these days then? I remember reading an interview few years back where he was talking about a possible comeback to fight Hopkins Trinidad, Oscar, He had quite a mouth on him. Talk went quiet, so what's he upto now? Looking forward to Quartey V Forrest in few weeks. Theres very little footage of Simon around, tried ebay before and all I could find was his battle with Alexander.
