Was tysons power overrated?. A lot of his opponents have said that they have been hit harder.
so your sayng tyson punches had little power just sharpness.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:Anybody can punch hard when they hit people with combinations that land sharp and so accurate. But I still would assume that Tyson's punches had some bite to them.

who did ribalta say hit him the hardest.enrique wrote:Jose Ribalta told me Tyson created damage -in his dangerous years- because he hit in combinations and threw a lot of punches.
Ribalta claimed that Bone Crusher hit a lot harder than Tyson but did not throw punches in clusters.
He put together tremendous combinations that had not only precision but power, which in turn dropped most of his opponents. Not positive if his power was ever measured on the dot, but some of his knockout wins had something to show.shyguy wrote:so your sayng tyson punches had little power just sharpness.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:Anybody can punch hard when they hit people with combinations that land sharp and so accurate. Yes I know, I said some of his knockout wins had something to show, meaning that some of them were out of this world.shyguy wrote:AndreWardFan2006 wrote:He put together tremendous combinations that had not only precision but power, which in turn dropped most of his opponents. i dont know how ribalta can think that . Tysons punches smashed peoples faces in. Ruddock after his fights with tyson looked like he had his face smashed in with a baseball bat . sammy scaffs noke was brokem in half and hanging off his face from one punch . It was pouring like a fawcett . Another fighter had his teeth driven through his mouth piece. golaata had a fractured cheek bone and broken vertebrae in his back after 2 rounds with tyson . Other punchers such as shavers, foreman, ruddock and lewis never did that kind of damage.enrique wrote:Jose Ribalta told me Tyson created damage -in his dangerous years- because he hit in combinations and threw a lot of punches.

I'm sure that somewhere along the way Foreman caused harm to somebody. He put everything he had into his punches and I wouldn't hesitate for a second that Foreman's power could compare to Tyson's.shyguy wrote:i dont know how ribalta can think that . nope foreman was a clubbing puncher . he had to constantly club on guys to knock them out . tyson one punch and the guy was on the deck .If anything foremans power was overrated.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:I'm sure that somewhere along the way Foreman caused harm to somebody. Frazier might disagree with that statement. I don't think Big George's power was overrated at the slightest. When he hit he meant it.shyguy wrote:nope foreman was a clubbing puncher . he had to constantly club on guys to knock them out . tyson one punch and the guy was on the deck .If anything foremans power was overrated.AndreWardFan2006 wrote:I'm sure that somewhere along the way Foreman caused harm to somebody. Or Michael Moorerkick asner wrote:"If anything Foremans power was overated."
Somebody forgot to tell that to Joe Frazier.
Exactly. Foreman @ 45 KTFO of Moorer. Imagine the kind of power he must have had when he was in his prime.ShoeShine wrote:Or Michael Moorerkick asner wrote:"If anything Foremans power was overated."

Uh oh, I think the Tyson fanatics might be gathering for an assault...Terence wrote:If you stood in front of Mike clearly cowed then off-course he'd take your head off. Thomas was gone and he had to club him to the canvas. Tyson was a solid hitter but no Louis or Liston. I feel, one-shot, Lewis was a harder hitter than Tyson, he had better balance when delivering his shots.

Here it comes…. And he started it with the old “he annihilated Holmes” argument.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:shyguy wrote:Was tysons power overrated?. A lot of his opponents have said that they have been hit harder.
thats cause these guys dont remember getting hit by tyson cause tyson hit them so damm hard.
tell me, did u ever see holmes get annihlated or knocked out cold the way he did against tyson? even in holmes 40s and 50s did u see it? did mccalls right hand take out larry the way tysons did?
tyson like joe louis made opponents do funny things when he hit them.
I think this is a good assessment.BoxBuzz wrote:I have to concur with Proffessor Pringle that in all likelyhood Foreman hit harder than Tyson. But Tyson's effectiveness can not be denied. Foreman could lift people off of both feet with a single punch and often did. He could stun you by hitting you on the arm he was not a pinpoint precision puncher like Tyson.
At his best Tyson could be compared to Louis for pinpoint power and accuracy. But perhaps not to Liston and Foreman for pure raw freight train power.
IMHO.

Nah, I don't mind Mike, I had many a late night watching him but he is fairly easy to figure out. Lewis, Louis, Liston, Holmes (peak), Ali, Frazier and others would hammer the guy. His punches came in big arcs and took out some guys and everyone gets carried away. When throwing a shot he'd often drop his other arm and rest it sideways along his waist, mostly on his right hook and if you had a decent left you could do him damage. Shit, Biggs hit the guy with lead left uppercuts when he was patently not up for the task of fighting for a title.
I also think that peek-a-boo style restricts punching past a certain age, you need a supple back to pull it off and the back goes young, you end up with two hands blocking your view and gaps appearing whenever you punch. He could not adapt as his career went on, I know his fans will say he had a mythical Garden of Eden peak that they change to suit them, for me it is odd they draw a line just before the first guy he fought with a decent jab, right hand and who, crucially, wasn't scared wiped the floor with Mike. Odd that
